Top 5 Software

Pokémon Pokopia was the best-selling game in March in Japan with over 800.000 units sold — a pretty impressive start, especially for a spin-off and a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive!

As for Resident Evil Requiem, the Nintendo Switch 2 version landed at #4. The two versions combined sold around 253.000 units (more than Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 during the same period), though the Nintendo Switch 2 only contributed around a 5th of that total (not even 50.000 units).

Considering Resident Evil Requiem is the first mainline Resident Evil game to be released day and date on a Nintendo console since Resident Evil 4 (over 20 years ago!), it’s not too surprising the Nintendo Switch 2 version didn’t perform better (especially with how limited the userbase currently is).

Finally, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection managed to land in the Top 5 Software thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which ranked at #3 with 53.489 units. The two versions combined sold around 74.000 units.

Publishers

Unsurprisingly, The Pokémon Company was the most successful publisher in Japan in March with around 880.000 units sold. The vast majority of those sales come from Pokémon Pokopia, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A making up most of the rest.

Thanks to the successful launch of Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom is #2 this month with 385.000 units sold. Despite selling significantly less than its predecessor, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection‘s contribution to Capcom’s sales was large enough to allow the company to sell more games than Nintendo in March!

Indeed, due to a lack of new releases, Nintendo sold “only” 333.000 units in March. The company did release Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, but not only did it come out at the very end of the month (on the 27th), it had a fairly unremarkable start at retail (around 10.000 units sold).

  1. The Pokémon Company: 880.000
  2. Capcom: 385.000
  3. Nintendo: 330.000
Hardware

Nintendo Switch 2 sales saw a big jump in March with around 457.000 units sold (nearly twice as much as in February!). While that increase is partly due to the tracking period for March having one extra week compared to February, there’s really no denying the release of Pokémon Pokopia had a positive impact on sales.

Also, the Nintendo Switch 2 came very close to reaching its next milestone, with 4.951.516 units sold as of March 29th. Even if sales were to drop off a cliff in April (which seems highly unlikely), the console is virtually guaranteed to reach the milestone during the first couple of weeks. In fact, by the time you’re reading this, it most likely has already!

Partly thanks to that extra week in March, the Nintendo Switch also saw an increase in sales in March. The aging console managed to sell over 100.000 units during that month, which marked its 9th Anniversary. And judging by current sales trend, it looks like it will keep on enjoying steady sales throughout its 10th year on the market.

  1. Nintendo Switch 2 – 457.531 (previous month: 256.485)
  2. Nintendo Switch – 103.267 (previous month: 74.477)
  3. PlayStation 5 – 78.000
