[Japan] Famitsu sales for July 2025 (Top 5 Software, Publishers, Hardware)

Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu, with Hardware and Software sales for July 2025 in Japan (June 30th to July 27th, so 4 weeks in total).

Famitsu

Top 5 Software

For the second month in a row, Mario Kart World was the best-selling game in Japan. It sold over 375,000 units, with the majority of those sales coming from the Nintendo Switch 2 bundle (though Famitsu does not provide a breakdown).

Important note: Famitsu has revised down sales for Mario Kart World, with -166.397 units for June and -11.352 units in July compared to what was shared in the weekly reports.

Donkey Kong Bananza is off to a great start with 182,000 units sold during the first couple of weeks. That’s a better start than Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (142,000 units sold during a similar timeframe), though that game was a mere remaster of a Wii game (that followed a port on Nintendo 3DS), so it’s not quite the most impressive of feats.

Publishers

Once again, Nintendo was the most successful publisher in Japan with nearly 800.000 units sold. Mario Kart World and the newly released Donkey Kong Bananza account for a good chunk of those sales, but the evergreen titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (among many others) are still pulling their weight.

Bandai-Namco is #2 with over 100.000 units sold, with the Nintendo Switch version of Tamagotchi Plaza accounting for half of those sales.

  1. Nintendo: 796.000
  2. Bandai-Namco: 106.000
  3. Sony Interactive Entertainment: 28.000
Hardware

Unsurprisingly, the Nintendo Switch 2 saw a big drop in sales during its second month with “only” 427,000 units sold in July. That drop is hardly surprising after the explosive, record-breaking launch, and with the console still being supply constrained. Sales were fairly strong, bringing total sales to 1,614,000 units.

Important note: Famitsu has revised down sales for the Nintendo Switch 2, with -214.601 units for June and -17.898 units in July compared to what was shared in the weekly reports.

As for the Nintendo Switch, it saw another drop in sales in July, though said drop is partly due to the tracking period for that month being 4 weeks (instead of 5 weeks for June).

  1. Nintendo Switch 2 – 426.808 (previous month: 1.187.582)
  2. Nintendo Switch – 57.532 (previous month: 78.097)
