Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle out on August 29th, trailer and details

Last year, Ubisoft had basically no game for Nintendo platforms during its press conference, only Just Dance 2017. But this year was different, with two exclusive games announced. The first one was a real surprise, and it’s a wonder nothing leaked ahead of the conference…. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle!

Here’s the debut trailer:

As the name implies, this game brings together two completely different universe: the Mushroom Kingdom, and the Rabbids. The game’s world will feel pretty familiar to fans of the Super Mario Bros. series, but it’s been completely twisted by the mischevious Rabbids and their endless shenanigans. Naturally, it’s filled to the brim with secrets and nods to classic Mario games.

Here’s the various playable characters, along with their stats:

As you’ve probably realised watching the trailer above, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a turn-based strategy game. You get to control various Super Mario and Rabbids characters, who have various skills, weapons, and techniques to be used to stop enemies in their tracks. A key element of the battle system consists in choosing the right team members for a given situation.

What’s more, each team members has its own skill tree, giving you the ability to unlock skills and upgrades as you progress through the game.

You can look around the battlefield, in order to see where enemies are hiding, but also to find the best tactical points to take them out. During battle, you can take cover to avoid retaliating fire, and then shoot at enemies to defeat them.

As for skills, Ubisoft gives us one example: Hero Sight (Mario): it allows you to shoot an enemy as they move into your line of sight. Those skills offer a huge tactical advantage, so knowing when to use (or not use) each skill is crucial. Since there are lots of different weapons, skills, and abilities, there’s tons of possibilities to spice up battles!

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle features plenty of different characters, but also luscious environments and crazy worlds to explore. One of them is called the Ancien Gardens world, and it’s quite literally the first one you encounter on your journey. It’s a place filled with foliage, various creatures, gorgeous water, and of course Rabbids and funky structures they brought along with them.

The Ancient Gardens used to be a pretty peaceful place, where Goombas would roam around. But now that the Rabbids are there, it’s anything but peaceful, and 100% more chaotic! That being said, exploring the Gardens will be pretty satisfying: there’s tons of hidden treasures and little surprises to find along the way!

Here’s the official game description from Ubisoft:

Mario and his friends will use hundreds of never-before-seen weapons to strategically take out enemies in true Rabbids style – with the occasional well-timed misfire. Players will use turn-based combat to strategically move their heroes across the battlefield to gain higher ground, utilize the pipe system and destructible environments, and receive a friendly boost from their teammates to get into their optimal firing position. Utilizing combat tactics and the cover system, players will explore the four unique worlds with their team of heroes defeating foes, gathering collectibles and solving puzzles along their quest.

In the main campaign for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, players will form a team of three unique characters, customizing their abilities via each character’s dedicated skill tree to form the perfect trio. In the game’s additional co-op challenges, players team up with a friend in local multiplayer, where they’ll play three levels of difficulty, taking on adversaries as a team. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will take advantage of the ability of Nintendo Switch to be played anywhere, anytime and is fully functioning on the go for both solo and co-op players.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle will get two editions:

  • Standar: includes the game, and… well, just the game in fact;
  • Collector’s: includes the game, a six-inch figurine of Rabbid Mario by Ubicollectibles, a set of physical collectors cards, and the original soundtrack on CD.

Ubisoft specifies that all pre-orders will also get a set of eight in-game exclusive weapons, with unique stats (no matter which version you’re picking).

What’s more, Ubicollectibles is releasing four figurines inspired by the Rabbids Heroes, available in 8 cm / 3 inches and 16.5cm / 6 inches versions.
