UK: video game sales for March 2016
March 2016 was a pretty good month for the video game market in the United Kingdom, but not so much for Nintendo. During that month, a total of 1 721 753 units were sold, and generated £57.6 million in revenue: that’s an increase of 2.68% and 5.49% respectively. Week 10 was by far the best week, with 47 ,485 units sold and £19.3 million generated.
Unfortunately, March wasn’t that good a month for Nintendo, as neither the Nintendo 3DS or the Wii U managed to sell over 100 000 units each (Software). About 84 366 units were sold on Nintendo 3DS, which is a drop of 21.39%. The handheld market as a whole isn’t really that healthy in the west, and it certainly shows in the UK.
As for the Wii U, sales rose to 77 479 units (+44.39%), thanks to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Pokkén Tournament. Unfortunately, this is yet another sign of how poorly Wii U games sell in the UK…
That being said, Nintendo did manage to have a couple of Wii U exclusives in the All-Format Top 40… The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Pokkén Tournament. The only other exclusive is Hyrule Warriors Legends (on Nintendo 3DS), which landed at #40 after just one week on the market.
