Super Mega Baseball 3 – Ver. ??? (Update 7A)

  • Release date: December 22nd 2021 (North America) / December 23rd 2021 (Europe)
  • Patch notes:
  • Fixed: Completing the very first scheduled regular season or very first scheduled playoff game in a Franchise season will fail to save unless forfeited or simulated.

Super Mega Baseball 3 – Ver. ??? (Update 7)

  • Release date: December 8th 2021 (North America, Europe)
  • Patch notes:
New Online Leagues Features:
  • Online presence indicates who is currently online in each of your Online Leagues.
  • Ability to directly challenge an online opponent in any of your leagues. This sends a notification to the opponent who can then accept or decline the challenge.
  • Ability to make your Online League public. The new Public League browser allows anyone to find open, active leagues to join. Filters allow you to find leagues that use specific settings of your choosing.
  • Two new settings that allow you to set a maximum number of players for the league, and to ignore the results of games that end due to a player disconnection.
Improvements:
  • Significant changes have been made to AI batting at all Ego levels and ball-strike counts, particularly to reduce AI batters’ plate discipline and reduce the likelihood of AI batters making contact on pitches out of the strike zone.
  • The batting contact simulation has been updated. In particular, foul tips are produced in some scenarios that previously resulted in weakly hit fair balls.
  • Tweaked reticle and pitching minigame UI overlays to be more indicative of ball/strike calls.
  • The pitch bend arrows have been adjusted so that the furthest arrow lands directly at the intended pitch target.
  • Jump input will now be ignored when fielding a ground ball or a line drive that can be caught without jumping, and where a jump is likely to result in a failed catch.
  • In Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, when a playoff series ends early, player Fitness and pitcher stamina now recover an amount relative to the number of games that were not necessary in the series.
  • In Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, CPU teams better optimize their pitching rotation between games and playoff series.
  • In Franchise mode, CPU teams are now even less eager to overpay for a player via sign and release without a probable or guaranteed playoff spot.
  • In Franchise mode, new trading card poses are generated for all players at the start of the offseason.
  • The championship win cinematic now plays when you win an Elimination tournament.
  • The stadium announcer now announces the new batter even when the new batter cinematic is quickly skipped.
  • AI baserunner aggression has been updated. They are now slightly more aggressive at advancing to 2B, advancing to 3B with 1 out, or scoring with 2 outs. In other cases, they are slightly more conservative.
  • The AI’s base stealing strategy has been updated to better judge when and when not to attempt to steal a base.
  • AI baserunners now take a bit more time to react correctly after a ball is hit.
  • AI fielders now take slightly better routes to the ball when playing at high Ego.
  • AI outfielders are now less perfect at playing balls hit high enough off the outfield fence.
  • The AI is now less likely to attempt a diving catch with the pitcher on softly hit balls.
  • AI batters no longer attempt to bunt for a base hit with 2 strikes (but may still attempt a sacrifice bunt or suicide squeeze with 2 strikes).
  • When a runner is queued to steal (R1 + steal button), the runner will now ignore other steal input until the queued steal is cancelled (R1).
  • Pitchers are now able to get a glove on slightly more comebackers.
  • In simulated games, the average number of pitches thrown per plate appearance has been reduced slightly, resulting in slightly longer outings from starting pitchers and slightly less tired pitching staffs.
  • Various other minor UI improvements.
Issues Addressed:
  • Fixed: The final pitch reticle location and the actual location that the pitch crosses the plate do not always line up properly.
  • Fixed: Infielders can sometimes over-dive for a ball when dive input is given slightly too early.
  • Fixed: The batter-runner passes the runner at 1B on rare occasions, leading to an unpreventable out.
  • Fixed: In rare situations, the AI can intentionally walk a batter when ahead in the count.
  • Fixed: Swing contact can appear to happen well in front of or behind home plate, resulting in odd-looking hit trajectories.
  • Fixed: A runner queued to steal (R1 + steal button) can accidentally begin stealing if the button combination is not pressed and released correctly.
  • Fixed: “Late” swing feedback can fail to appear if a swing fails to make contact due to the ball having already passed by.
  • Fixed: Dive input can sometimes be incorrectly ignored when attempting to dive with the first baseman.
  • Fixed: The shortstop and second baseman sometimes fail to back up the third baseman and first baseman respectively, leaving the corner infielder to chase after a deflected ball.
  • Fixed: AI batters are late on their swings much more often than they are early, resulting in much more balls being hit to the opposite field.
  • Fixed: AI baserunners sometimes start retreating back to their base on clearly uncatchable ground balls or line drives.
  • Fixed: AI baserunners can sometimes hesitate for no reason when rounding 3B on shallow fly balls.
  • Fixed: AI baserunners can fail to tag up on bunt pop-ups to the catcher.
  • Fixed: AI baserunners at 2B can be too aggressive trying to advance to 3B with less than 2 outs on ground balls hit to the shortstop.
  • Fixed: In rare situations, AI baserunners can run themselves into an out after an overthrow.
  • Fixed: AI outfielders can sometimes throw towards 3B when the throw should go to 2B to prevent the batter-runner from easily advancing.
  • Fixed: In rare situations, AI outfielders can pull up short or run past a rolling ball, allowing the ball to roll to the wall.
  • Fixed: In rare situations, AI outfielders still throw to 3B when the throw should go home.
  • Fixed: AI fielders can run in the wrong direction when trying to chase down a runner heading to a nearby base.
  • Fixed: AI fielders consistently time their jumps too early on certain types of hits.
  • Fixed: AI fielders sometimes dive when another fielder is already camped for an easy catch.
  • Fixed: AI fielders can fail to back off from one another and end up competing for the same catch.
  • Fixed: Force out can be ruled when a fielder picks up the ball while clearly not touching the base.
  • Fixed: On rare occasions, both the second baseman and shortstop can be cutting for a throw from the outfield when there is a play at 2B, leaving no one to cover 2B.
  • Fixed: In rare situations, a fielder carrying the ball and chasing down a runner about to slide can fail to make a tag attempt.
  • Fixed: AI infielder tending 2B can be duped into leaving the base during a double steal.
  • Fixed: AI outfielders miss too many sliding catches when playing at high Ego.
  • Fixed: After pinch hitting, the AI can sometimes leave a player out of position on defense, even with a suitable defensive replacement on the bench.
  • Fixed: The AI sometimes throws the ball to no one when throwing around the horn after an out.
  • Fixed: Runner at 1B can be seen clipping with the first baseman during some strikeout cinematics.
  • Fixed: On rare occasions, players on the field flicker between home and away jerseys.
  • Fixed: “Custom Captain” achievement can unlock at the wrong time.
  • Fixed: Crash can occur when trying to save changes and switch teams in Team Hub.
  • Fixed: In Practice mode, attempting to swap defensive positions or change the batting order of a CPU-controlled team pregame leads to a soft lock.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, a player who resigns at the beginning of the offseason can have a much higher or lower initial asking salary than intended.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, after hitting a home run, the career home run milestone text can trigger incorrectly.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, the team specialization bars seen when switching teams in Team Hub are not always updated as players move between teams.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, on rare occasions CPU-controlled teams will salary dump late in the regular season even when a playoff spot is probable or secured.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, changing a player’s name is not immediately reflected on the player’s Career Stats screen.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, a Player Development Opportunity can remain but no longer have any value after a player experiences a skill arc increase.
  • Fixed: In Custom Season and Elimination modes, the championship win cinematic can be shown incorrectly when both teams in the finals are marked as user controlled.
  • Fixed: In Pennant Race and Online Leagues, cumulative stats (batting AVG, ERA, W, etc.) do not appear in the post game stats tables.
  • Fixed: In online co-op play, the baserunning player can experience unintended slow motion effects well after the ball is hit.
  • Fixed: In online play, attempting to queue a runner to steal (R1 + steal button) could incorrectly result in the runner taking off immediately, or not stealing at all.
  • Fixed: In online play, a successful check swing can register as a full swing on race occasions.
  • Fixed: In online play, initiating a throw immediately before a catch is dropped can incorrectly result in a wild throw.
  • Fixed: In online play, base stealing can be exploited by attempting to step out or start a substitution immediately before pressing the steal button.
  • Fixed: In online play, if the pitcher has no 4F in their arsenal and a pitch is cancelled (for example, due to the batter stepping out first), the pitcher can appear to gain a 4F for one pitch.
  • Fixed: In online play, the batting power score can incorrectly change color following a hit or check swing.
  • Fixed: In online play, the wrong strikeout cinematic camera can sometimes be shown for the batting player.
  • Fixed: In online play, the ball can stop emitting audio for the batting player during a stolen base attempt or during a strikeout, base on balls, or hit by pitch cinematic.
  • Fixed: In online play, the wrong camera is shown on sharply hit foul balls while batting.
  • Fixed: In online play, the post game ticker tape fails to fire after you win a game.
  • Fixed: In online play, the game can come to a halt after the batter swings in very rare circumstances.
  • Fixed: In online 1v1 play, it is possible for the pitching mechanic timer to stop working, leading to auto balls no longer being ruled.
  • Fixed: In rare situations, you are unable to pitch when continuing a mid-game save after having played the game earlier in an online session.
  • Fixed: In online play, on rare occasions during a pick-off attempt, the batting player would see the ball float and then suddenly warp to the infielder once caught.
  • Fixed: In online play, after the catcher successfully blocks a pitch in the dirt and the ball rolls out in front of the plate, the batting player can only see the ball shadow and not the ball itself.
  • Fixed: It is slightly too easy to throw out a slow, right-handed batter at 1B from right field.
  • Fixed: The pitcher is slightly harder to select via movement input after the ball is dropped or deflected.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, the special post game flashbulbs and ticker tape fail to fire after winning a conference or championship series.
  • Fixed: A second local player joining an online 1v1 or 2v1 game can be placed on the wrong team.

Super Mega Baseball 3 – Ver. ??? (Update 6)

  • Release date: March 24th 2021 (North America, Europe)
  • Patch notes:

MAJOR ADDITIONS:

  • Player Career Stats and Historical Season Data in Franchise Mode:
    • New Player Career screen shows a player’s season stats from the 10 most recent seasons, and career stats accumulated from the player’s entire career (starting from the current season at the time this update is installed).
    • View past season and all-time league leaders in home runs, RBIs, strikeouts, and more accumulated throughout the Franchise playthrough.
    • View season standings and playoff brackets from the 10 most recent seasons.
  • Practice Mode:
    • Play an endless game where you choose to either always bat or always pitch.
    • Pitchers do not tire, and players’ Mojo and Fitness do not change during the game.
    • Great way to prepare before being matched up in a Pennant Race or Online League game.

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • AI batters are now slightly more affected by the pitcher’s velocity and junk skills, and slightly less affected by the power pitch score and pitch location.
  • AI batters are now more prone to being tricked by the break on the pitch, particularly when pitching at low Ego levels.
  • The pitching reticle minigame is now more difficult, particularly at high pitching Ego levels.
  • Following a fielder selection change, the player now has more time to react and control the newly selected fielder before the fielder slows down, particularly at high Ego levels.
  • When a fielder misses a catch with the “!” above their head, there is now text underneath the character explaining the primary reason the catch was missed along with the odds that the catch was missed.
  • Before the pitch is started, you can now queue runners to take off with the pitch delivery by holding R1 while giving steal commands. Using this feature, runners will get a bad jump but will still return safely on a pick-off attempt. Best used on hit & run attempts and full count, 2 out situations.
  • With runners on 1B and 2B, you can now steal with only the runner at 2B by pressing L2.
  • Passed ball and wild pitch rates have been adjusted, particularly to greatly reduce the odds of a missed catch on pitches in or near the strikezone, and on pitches where the reticle minigame ends up fairly close to the intended target.
  • Fielding error odds have been tweaked slightly, particularly to reduce errors on balls that bounce in front of or near the fielder.
  • Fielders with low Fielding skill now miss slightly more jumping, diving, and sliding catches.
  • Ball deflection velocities following a missed catch have been tweaked.
  • Pitchers now see slightly more comebackers get through them when the ball is hit hard enough.
  • The pitcher is now more likely to drop a throw while running to tend a base, while other fielders are slightly less likely to drop a throw while running to tend a base.
  • The pitcher can no longer receive a Mojo boost following a successful sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly by the opponent.
  • AI baserunners are now slightly more willing to attempt a straight steal of 2B, and slightly less aggressive trying to score on a wild pitch or passed ball.
  • AI will no longer use the Corners In infield defensive positioning in the last inning when ahead by more than one run.
  • AI will no longer use the Infield In defensive positioning when facing a large run deficit.
  • AI will now typically wait slightly longer before pulling their current pitcher when the rest of their bullpen is collectively tired.
  • In Franchise mode, players are now extremely unlikely to retire before the age of 30, and more likely to retire at age 40+.
  • In Franchise mode, age no longer affects the likelihood that a player resigns from their team at the end of a season. Players are now more likely to resign the longer it has been since they were a free agent.
  • In Franchise mode, the sign and release logic used by the CPU-controlled teams has been updated. The CPU is now less eager to sign star players for very large salaries in the offseason, and more willing to sign players in general once their asking salary is significantly below their “fair” value.
  • In Franchise mode, Player Development Opportunities have been tweaked to reduce the odds of acquiring a negative trait or losing a positive trait.
  • In Franchise mode, the speed at which the news feed scrolls has been improved.
  • At the start of Franchise mode, the initial asking salaries of some available players have been reduced.
  • In Custom Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, you can now set the starting lineups for each user-controlled team before watching or playing a game (even when the user-controlled team is currently being played by the AI).
  • In Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, the minimum number of plate appearances or innings pitched required to appear as a playoff league leader for a rate statistic (batting average, ERA, etc.) has been improved.
  • When watching a CPU vs CPU game in Franchise, Season, or Elimination mode, you can now press the Simulate and Finish Later buttons in the pause menu in the middle of a play.
  • Various other minor UI improvements have been made.

ISSUES ADDRESSED:

  • Fixed: A crash can occur in the logo editor when removing layers via the undo button.
  • Fixed: The first baseman could be incorrectly selected initially on balls hit between 1B and 2B where the second baseman is the clear, preferred selection (similarly with the third baseman and shortstop).
  • Fixed: Mojo and Fitness changes for Pennant Race do not update correctly based on team usage and win rates from previous races.
  • Fixed: On the Pennant Race Standings screen, the “User Standings” for previous races can be incorrect.
  • Fixed: Pitcher can be incorrectly selected initially on balls hit to the outfield.
  • Fixed: Fielder selection does not always auto-switch when intended after a ball gets through the infield or after a catch is missed.
  • Fixed: Movement input can refuse to switch to a better fielder when another fielder is close to the ball’s trajectory, even though the other fielder has no reasonable chance at making a catch.
  • Fixed: Some other rare fielder selection issues.
  • Fixed: AI-controlled first basemen can wander too far to their right on ground balls to 2B when they should be tending 1B instead.
  • Fixed: AI-controlled outfielders with weak arms could refuse to throw home when there was still a chance of making an out at home.
  • Fixed: Baserunners too easily retreat safely back to 3B on a suicide squeeze attempt.
  • Fixed: In online vs play, steal attempts can be incorrectly rejected following consecutive attempts after hitting foul balls.
  • Fixed: Watch camera angles can remain on during Franchise and Season win cinematics.
  • Fixed: Unusual or super fast pitch movement can occur in online play if the pause menu or chat wheel are open while the pitch is being delivered.
  • Fixed: The “4 Dingers Would Have Been Better” achievement fails to unlock in some game modes.
  • Fixed: Ticker tape does not fire after winning a game in Founder’s Field, Big Sky Park, Lafayette Corner, or Tiger Den.
  • Fixed: UI animations are affected by slow motion gameplay effects.
  • Fixed: Text from an online partner or opponent can be unnecessarily censored when it does not need to be on some platforms (for example, Jack
  • Cracker’s last name is unnecessarily censored in some cases).
  • Fixed: Making lineup changes to a Standard team in Pennant Race or Online Leagues marks the team as visually customized, leading to various incorrect UI elements and text being shown in various parts of the game.
  • Fixed: In Pennant Race and Online Leagues, after an opponent forfeits or disconnects, the game often fails to present the post-game stats and three stars.
  • Fixed: Pennant Race and Online League match results can fail to record when a disconnect occurs before the game starts in some cases.
  • Fixed: Crash in online versus play when trying to leave the game from the pause menu immediately after letting the substitution timer expire.
  • Fixed: Crash when a friend joins for party-based online play while on the Exhibition pre-game lineup screen.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, a crash can occur after entering the offseason and scrolling the news feed to a retired player.
  • Fixed: In Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, team stats for position players failed to appear in rare cases if the underlying league structure had been changed at some point in the league editor.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, at the start of the offseason, newly generated rookie free agents would lose their traits after the first negotiation round.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, the AI would never sign a player that was just released, leading to a player salary reduction exploit.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, the league leaders tables for rate statistics (batting average, ERA, etc.) do not always correctly filter out players that fall short of the minimum plate appearances or innings pitched requirement.
  • Fixed: In Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, a save is not triggered after simulating games.
  • Fixed: In Pennant Race, the spinner on the Team Stats tab in Team Hub is disabled, making it impossible to view stats from previous races.
  • Fixed: The Roster tab in Team Hub does not always default sort starting pitchers by their starting rotation order.
  • Fixed: While batting, black teeth can be seen on pitchers with certain personality types.
  • Fixed: Helmet ear flap can disappear / appear on the incorrect side and helment logo can appear mirrored on some players from certain camera angles.
  • Fixed: Ball hitting yellow line on right-center field wall in Big Sky could be incorrectly ruled a home run.
  • Fixed: A foul ball could be ruled prematurely in Lafayette Corner on catchable fly balls that travel straight over seating sections.
  • Fixed: Incorrect piping on jersey 11 and jersey 17 for some body types.
  • Fixed: In online versus play, the pitching timer can fail to reappear after returning to the game from the substitution menu.
  • Fixed: In Pennant Race, the wrong Class (Legendary, All-Star, Pro, etc.) was sometimes shown when viewing another player’s game history.
  • Fixed: In Online Leagues, the match against specific opponent feature could fail in rare cases.
  • Fixed: Baserunning and fielding sound effects can carry over into the front end after an opponent forfeits or disconnects from an online match.
  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, the Pressure meter behaves the same in both regular season and playoff games. Pressure should tend to be higher in the playoffs like it does in Season and Elimination modes.
  • Fixed: Miscellaneous corrections to UI and help content images.
  • Fixed: (Switch only) Frame drops can be experienced during gameplay in a number of stadiums, particularly in Shaka Sports Turf and El Viejo Stadium.
  • Fixed: (Switch only) In Franchise mode, a crash can occur when resuming a franchise with two identical news items.

  • The Auto Ego option is now available for leagues that allow demo/trial players.

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Logo editor customizations can now use up to 32 layers (up from 16).
  • Human-controlled fielders now only wave their hands when tracking a catchable pop fly if the fielder is guaranteed to arrive in time for the catch should the stick be immediately released.
  • Reach tag attempts are now interrupted when pressing a throw-to-base button, allowing a throw to start before the reach tag animation ends.
  • Batters no longer lose Mojo after a successful sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly.
  • Catcher throws on steal attempts now have reduced speed, particularly for low throwing minigame scores and catchers with low Arm skill, making it easier to steal bases against catchers with weak arms.
  • It is now harder to steal 2B or 3B after the pitcher steps off or performs a pick-off attempt.
  • Baserunners now tire a bit more quickly when changing directions on the basepaths, making it a bit harder to survive a rundown.
  • AI baserunners are now more likely to get picked off when preparing to steal a base.
  • AI baserunners are now less likely to attempt a steal as the defense attempts more pick-offs in the inning.
  • The pitcher will now fail to catch, block, or deflect comebackers that are hit well enough, though pitchers with high Fielding skill are more likely to get a glove on the ball.
  • The ball’s change in speed and direction following a missed catch is now less affected by the fielder’s velocity.
  • In Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, players become or stay Juiced less frequently and more randomly.
  • In Franchise, Season, and Elimination modes, players tire less when they see less time in the field, resulting in the DH recovering more Fitness than other players between games.

  • In Pennant Race and Online Leagues that use the Auto Ego option, starting Ego values for new players have been adjusted.
  • In Pennant Race and Online Leagues that use random starting pitchers, starters with fewer starts in the current race/season are now more likely to
  • be selected (but both teams are still assigned the same starting rotation slot).
  • In AI vs. AI games, fielders are now more aggressive at trapping runners on the basepaths.
  • In watch mode, the default camera view is now used when auto tracking is turned on instead of automatically keeping the ball in the center of the screen.

  • Fixed: Fielders can completely miss catches (no “!”) on balls thrown to them while running to tend a base, particularly during rundowns.
  • Fixed: In rare cases, corner infielders can become stuck moving extremely slowly while tracking down a catchable pop fly, often leading to a failed catch.
  • Fixed: In rare cases, fielders can suddenly and unexpectedly leave a base when a throw to their base is started, often resulting in the throw sailing past the base.
  • Fixed: In rare cases, a fielder can release a throw to a base without waiting long enough for the fielder to arrive, resulting in the throw sailing past the base.

  • Fixed: In rare cases, fielders can incorrectly leave a base to cut for a throw after a missed catch in the outfield.
  • Fixed: In rare cases, both middle infielders can track a shallow pop fly to CF for too long, leading to a failed out at 2B because no one was tending the base.
  • Fixed: In some cases, the wrong outfielder could be auto-selected with respect to the player’s input after a missed catch or after a hit leaves the infield.
  • Fixed: Stick input can unexpectedly refuse to switch fielders after the stick is released for a moment.
  • Fixed: Attempting to step out after the pitcher has already started a pick-off move results in the runner failing to safely dive back to the base.
  • Fixed: In rare cases, steal input issued during a pick-off attempt can be incorrectly ignored.
  • Fixed: AI baserunners can be baited into getting doubled off by performing a very early jump or dive on a high pop-up.
  • Fixed: AI baserunners can be baited into an easy tag out after a missed catch.
  • Fixed: AI outfielders can sometimes fail to throw home when they had a reasonable chance at an out at home plate.

  • Mitigated: In rare cases, AI fielders can make a bad decision to take an easy force out instead of chasing or trapping a runner further along the bases.
  • Mitigated: Pitcher can fail to cover home fast enough during a rundown, leading to a failed out at home.
