SNES Classic Edition / SNES Mini announced, out in September, includes 21 games

Last year, Nintendo released the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System (known as Nintendo Entertainement System: NES Classic in North America, and Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer in Japan), and it was a smashing success. The console quickly sold out, and in the end, Nintendo was never able to fully meet demand. Naturally, it was only a matter of time until Nintendo announced the SNES Classic Edition / SNES Mini!

And that’s exactly what Nintendo announced today. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition (to be called Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe, and Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Family Computer in Japan, though it hasn’t been announced for that country yet) will be released in September, on the 29th to be precise!

Just like the NES Mini, it will come with some of the most popular games ever released on the SNES, such as Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and many more. Quite interestingly, it will also include Star Fox 2, which was originally supposed to be released on the SNES, but was ultimately cancelled.

That’s right: this SNES game will make its official debut on the SNES Mini! But there’s a little “catch”: players will have to unlock it first, by beating the first stage of Star Fox.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition / Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System will cost $79.99 (presumably, 79.99€ in Europe). Just like the NES Mini, it’s much smaller than the original console, and can be plugged via HDMI.

Here’s the 21 games that come pre-installed with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition / Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (the line-up is the same in Europe and North America):

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III (Final Fantasy VI)
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi’s Island

And here’s everything included in the box:

  • the console itself
  • a HDMI cable
  • a USB Charging cable
  • AC Adapter (sold separately in Europe)
  • 2 wired Super NES Classic / Super NES Mini controllers

Finally, here’s some pictures of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition / Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (yes, Europe and North America get different models… just like the actual SNES, back in the days):

Naturally, the Upcoming Releases has already been updated with this announcement!
