Quick note about the Perfectly Nintendo Twitter account

Update: account has been unlocked as of June 4th, 9PM CEST. You can disregard the post below!

***

Last week, on May 29th at about 12PM CEST, the Perfectly Nintendo account on Twitter was locked up by Twitter, officially because it “exhibited automated behavior that violates the Twitter Rules”. If you have been following us, you know that this isn’t the case, and in fact, we stopped relying on automated tools to post tweets several months ago. And in case you’re wondering: no, the account was not compromised in any way.

Because of this, we can no longer post anything on Twitter, and that includes the notice you’re currently reading. Fortunately, previous tweets remain available, and it’s not like users were automatically unsubscribed to our feed.

Unfortunately, we do not know when the account will be unlocked. Twitter do have a procedure to unlock it (it has not been banned or anything, they just need to verify a human being is a behind it), but it simply does not work, presumably due to an issue with our carrier (it’s an issue that has been impacting quite a few people as seen with a quick web search, and isn’t new at all).

Unfortunately, there’s no way for us to do anything with the account at all, including changing the phone number to one that can be used for the unlocking. We have tried to contact support, but are yet to receive a reply other than an automated message more or less copy/pasting the official FAQ.

The reason we’re only posting this notice now is because we didn’t think it would take that long for Twitter to deal with this (we’re still waiting!), but it’s become clear the only thing Twitter is willing to provide a prompt reaction to is when it involves copyrighted materials.

Of course, this whole thing does not directly impact the running of Perfectly Nintendo: articles are still written, posts and pages updated, etc. as usual; you just don’t hear about us on Twitter.

In the mean time, here’s how you can support Perfectly Nintendo:

  • share this notice with your friends/followers/etc. in case they’re not aware of the account being locked down
  • share any news post / article you find interesting on social media (please don’t spam anyone, though!). Of course, this is something we’d like you to do when our Twitter account is locked down, but it’s especially important now that our Twitter presence has flatlined.

We will keep you updated if/when we hear back from Twitter.
