Pokémon GO: Niantic details upcoming Buddy Pokémon feature

Recently, Pokémon GO received a major update which added a brand new feature: Pokémon Appraisal. It allows you to identify which Pokémon has the most potential for battle, which is pretty useful if you’re planning to go take on a Gym.

Naturally, this is not the only new feature the development has been working on. Today, Niantic posted a blog post in order to detail an upcoming feature called Buddy Pokémon.

With this feature, you will be able to pick up your favorite Pokémon, and that very Pokémon will become their buddy. It will then appear alongside your Trainer avatar (on the profile screen), and it will also allow you to get various bonuses (such as Candy for walking together). Naturally, you will be able to change your buddy Pokémon at any time!

Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all we know about Buddy Pokémon right now. It’s not clear what the other bonuses are, and if there’s other benefits (gameplay-wise). We also don’t know when this new feature will be implemented, or even if it will be part of the next update for Pokémon GO or not.

In the mean time, here’s some screenshots for the Buddy Pokémon feature in Pokémon GO:
