Original Journey (hand drawn action adventure game) headed to the Nintendo Switch
Developed by Bonfire Entertainment and published by Another Indie, Original Journey is yet another indie game headed to the Nintendo Switch (in Q1 2018, to be precise). Described as sci-fi action adventure game, it features a really neat hand draw pencial art style.
According to the developers Original Journey blends several gameplay styles and elements: shooting, platforming, tower-defense, racing, and puzzles. What’s more, that mix is said to form a “cohesive experience”, completed by a “strong narrative arc”. The game is is set on a mysterious and ever-changing world.
Here’s what the story is all about:
The Ato, a race of space faring vegetation, embark on a quest to save their home world. Only the legendary Origin Stone, an artifact of unlimited power and rumored to be on the ominous Planet Shadow, can deliver salvation to their people. By invading the procedurally generated Shadow World, the Ato can hope to survive, but how far will they go to save themselves?
In this game, you get to play as The Rookie, a member of the attacking Ato army. You can equip customisable armour with various buffs: those affect speed, life recovery, fall damage, and more. There’s also dozen of upgradeable weapons, such as turrets, each with their own, distinct playstyle. Exploring Planet Shadow isn’t going to be a walk in the park, especially since its inhabitants are more than ready to fight back!
Here’s the main features:
- A well designed storyline, and a lot of interesting branch line and missions including racing or puzzles etc.
- All graphics (of maps, scenes, characters, weapons, etc.) are hand drawn.
- Dozens of upgradable weapons with each one in its unique style. Each weapon has its special features, but one cannot adapt to all situations. So players should be armed with 2 weapons. The awesome effect brought by combination of different weapons will give players endless fun!
- Differently shaped armor with buffs of different chips can have amazing effects, such as increase of waving speed, faster life recovery or avoidance of falling damage from topography, etc.
