Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: exclusive offers coming next month worldwide (x2 Gold Points, icon elements, more)
Nintendo have announced several offers for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack worldwide, in an attempt to get even more people to either subscribe or upgrade.
x2 Gold Points
First, there’s a x2 Gold Points running from November 1st (North America, Europe) / November 2nd (Japan) to January 31st. During that period, any purchase on the Nintendo eShop (let it be games or DLC) will net you twice the usual amount of Gold Points.
As with similar offers, you will only get the extra Gold Points once the campaign is over (in this case, sometime in early February). And the good thing is, in North America and Japan, you don’t need to have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription when you make your purchases to be eligile! Indeed, as long as you do get an Expansion Pack subscription before January 31st, all purchases made from November 1st/2nd to January 31st will be eligible!
If you’re planning to take advantage of that offer, there’s s some regional differences for you to take into account:
- In Japan, the Game Vouchers are not eligible. However, Download Codes are, as long as you enter them on the Nintendo eShop during the promotion period.
- In North America, only “eligible digital games or DLC” will allow you to earn x2 Gold Points. Right now, it’s not clear which games or DLC will be eligible.
- In Europe, the offer applies to all digital purchases… even Game Vouchers! Also, the extra Gold Coins are awarded with 24h of purchase, or 48h for people who subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on the day of the qualifying purchase. The granting of Gold Points may be delayed by up to 1 week during peak periods (such as launch day of big games or holidays. Unfortunately, it appears that unlike in North America and Japan, you will need to have an Expansion Pack subscription when making purchases to get the extra Gold Points.
Also in Europe, Nintendo is extending the x2 Gold Points offer to Hardware on the My Nintendo Store:

Important note: you need to be logged in to your Nintendo Account and have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription at the time of purchase to get the Gold Coins. If you only have a regular Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you will still get some Gold Points!
NB: the points are awarded within three weeks of payment.
Nintendo 64 Icon Elements
Between November 1st (North America) / November 2nd (Europe, Japan), Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will be able to claim exclusive icon elements based on some popular Nintendo 64 games. A different set of icons will go live each month:
- Round 1 (November): Super Mario 64, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Nintendo 64
- Round 2 (December): The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Yoshi’s Story, F-Zero X, Nintendo 64
- Round 3 (January): Mario Kart 64, Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, Nintendo 64
NB: those icons may become available again at a later date.
And that’s not all: each month, there will be special missions allowing you to earn Platinum Points by playing games featured in the sets of icon elements:

Mario Party and Mario Party 2
Nintendo have also announced that the next update for Nintendo 64: Nintendo Switch Online will be on November 1st (North America) / November 2nd (Europe / Japan). The new games to be added are:
- Mario Party
Mario Party launched for the Nintendo 64 system in 1999 and was the original party-starter for the series! In this classic four-player party game, you’ll join Mario and friends across nine action-packed Adventure Boards and 56 minigames in colorful multiplayer* (or solo!) competition.
- Mario Party 2
Keep the party going with Mario Party 2 and celebrate like it’s the year 2000 all over again! Mario and his Mushroom Kingdom friends return for another round of Bowser-bashing board-game action, complete with fancy costumes, new Adventure Boards and minigames.
Since all other unreleased games announced during the Nintendo Direct in September are slated for a 2023 release, it would appear that GoldenEye will be released in December.
