Nintendo France and Benelux merged into Nintendo of Europe

Back in November, Nintendo announced a reorganisation of their subsidiaries in Europe with Nintendo France, Nintendo Benelux, and Nintendo Iberica to be absorbed into Nintendo of Europe (which would then get a new trade name: Nintendo of Europe AG in January 2024, and then Nintendo of Europe SE in August 2024).

And yesterday, the first part of that reorganisation was carried out, with Nintendo France and Nintendo Benelux being absorbed into Nintendo of Europe via an absorption-type merger. Legally, the two companies have ceased to exist, and the only remaining entity is Nintendo of Europe.

Of course, they haven’t really disappeared: they have simply become new branches at Nintendo of Europe, and will continue operating as before (though this time, they will answer to Nintendo of Europe instead of directly to Nintendo Co. Ltd in Japan).

Here’s the remaining steps of the reorganisation at Nintendo of Europe:

  • January 2024: Nintendo of Europe’s trade name will be changed to Nintendo of Europe AG (Aktiengesellschaft)
  • August 2024: Nintendo Iberica will be absorbed into Nintendo of Europe AG
  • August 2024: Nintendo of Europe AG’s trade name will be changed to Nintendo of Europe SE (Societas Europaea)

This changes is not expected to have any direct impact on users in France, Benelux, Spain, and Portugual.
