Nintendo Financials (August 2024): results and highlights

Nintendo has shared its latest financial results, covering the period ended June 2024 (April 1st 2024 to June 30th 2024). You will find all the details on these pages:

  • Consolidated Financial Highlights, with consolidated operating results, the forecast for the current Fiscal Year, Nintendo comments, sales information (regional breakdown, digital sales), sales data and forecast, and more
  • Financial Results Explanatory Material, with lots of additional sales data, list of million-sellers this Fiscal Year, release planning, and more

Some highlights:

  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is off to a good start with 1.76 million units sold during its first quarter;
  • Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is also off to a good start with 1.19 million units sold in just a few days;
  • One third-party game sold over 1 million units during Q1 of the current Fiscal Year;
  • Nintendo Switch (Hardware) sales: 2.10 million units (-46.3% Year on Year). They’re at a similar level than during the previous quarter. The OLED Model accounts for most of those sales.
  • Nintendo Switch (Software) sales: 30.64 million units (-41.3% Year on Year)
  • Both Hardware and Software saw a major drop in sales, which is primarily due to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom significantly boosting sales during the same quarter the previous year.
  • Digital sales totaled 80.7 billion Yen (-32.6% Year on Year), mostly due to lower sales of digital version of retail games (again, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had a significant impact on digital sales last year) and a drop in DLC sales. They account for 58.9% of total Software sales. Since sales of digital-only games and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions remain stables, the proportion of digital sales in total Software sales actually increased Year on Year;
  • Mobile and IP related business also saw a significant drop in sales (14.7 billion Yen, -53.8% Year on Year), mostly due to the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in theatres last year and the inevitable decrease in the revenue related to the movie;
  • Nintendo did not announced any changes to the original financial forecast published on May 7th;
  • The Nintendo Switch has reached 128 million Annual Playing Users (+7 millions compared to previous year);
  • Princess Peach: Showtime! has now sold over 1.3 million units worldwide, with sales during Q1 of the current Fiscal Year accounting for about half of total sales. Nintendo is expecting sales to continue to grow in the long term.
