Mario Kart Arcade GP DX gets a major update in Europe and North America

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX is the third game in the Mario Kart Arcade GP series, and it came out on July 25th, 2013 in Japan. Unlike the previous two, this one can be updated via internet: Bandai-Namco even promised annual updates (for a total of 5 years), and even make Game Centers pay an annual fee to cover the costs of those very updates.

According to Arcade Heroes, Mario Kart GP DX was updated to ver. 1.04 EX in late June. This new version brings most of the additions/changes that Japanese Game Centers got last year:

– new characters: Metal Mario and Rosalina;
– Mirror Modes for all tracks;
– new title screen;
– new vehicles (including new colours) and power ups;
– improved drifting mechanics, similar to the Mario Kart games on consoles. You now get a small boost at the end of a successful drift, and there’s three levels: the longer the drift, the higher the level;
– and more…

According to Arcade Heroes, the latest update for Japan added an online cross-site vs. location mode, and it’s quite possible it will be added in next year’s update in Europe and North America.
