[Japan] Famitsu sales for December 2025 (Top 5 Software, Publishers, Hardware)
Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu, with Hardware and Software sales for December 2025 in Japan (December 1st to December 28th, so 4 weeks in total).
Famitsu
Top 5 Software
For the first time in three months, Mario Kart World ranked #1 in the Top 5 Software, with over 410,000 units sold. It’s now sold over 2.6 million units since launch.
Also, now that the Hardware bundle (which was the main driver of sales throughout the year) has been discontinued, it will be interesting to see the sales trajectory of the game over the next few months.
The Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A ranked at #2 with 223.022 units sold, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is just behind at #3 with 186.108 units sold. Combined, the two versions sold around 409.000 units, and came pretty close from outselling Mario Kart World.
Both versions of Pokémon Legends: Z-A enjoyed a boost in sales in December, but because the tracking period for November had one extra week, sales for the Nintendo Switch version are technically down compared month on month.
Family-friendly games usually sell pretty well during the end of year holidays season, so it’s not surprising that both Kirby Air Riders and the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Momotarou Dentetsu 2 ~Anata no Machi mo Kitto Aru~ would manage to land a spot in the Top 5 Software.

Publishers
As is the case almost every holidays season, Nintendo was the most successful publisher in Japan in December with a whopping 1.121.000 units sold. Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders account for over half of those sales, with the rest coming from evergreen titles (unfortunately, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond did not contribute much).
Thanks to the strong sales of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, The Pokémon Company ranked #2 with over 430.000 units sold.
Finally, the latest entry in the Momotarou Dentetsu series allowed Konami to land at #3 with around 220.000 units sold.
- Nintendo: 1.121.000
- The Pokémon Company: 435.000
- Konami: 220.000
Hardware
The Nintendo Switch 2 did extremely well during its first December with around 816.000 units sold (the second best month after launch month). For the 6th month in a row, it was the best-selling console in Japan, and judging by the sales trend of other platforms, it seems unlikely that streak is going to be broken any time soon.
Since launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 has already sold over 3.7 million units in Japan.
The Nintendo Switch too saw a boost in sales in December, though said boost is far more modest that the one for its successor. The aging console did manage to sell over 150.000 units last month in Japan, which is roughly 12.000 units more than in November.
- Nintendo Switch 2 – 815.632 (November: 500.414)
- Nintendo Switch – 153.619 (November: 138.018)
