Publishers

Nintendo was, unsurprisingly, the most successful publisher in December with well over 1 million units sold in total, far surpassing the competition. Nintendo games have always been extremely popular during the holiday season, and this year clearly was no exception. And without a new Pokémon game, the company was bound to rank #1 this month.

Super Mario Party Jamboree accounts for a significant chunk of those sales, with Mario & Luigi: Brothership contributing a more modest portion, and the usual evergreen titles (including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, simply unstoppable) making up the rest.

As for Konami, it ranks #3 this month with around 112.000 units sold, mostly thanks to its Momotaro Dentetsu games and POWER PROS titles.

  1. Nintendo: 1.268.000
  2. Square-Enix: 342.000
  3. Konami: 112.000

Hardware

Hardware-wise, the Nintendo Switch saw a significant increase in sales in December with over 450.000 units sold. The tracking period for December had one extra week compared to November, but it’s not the only reason sales improved so much in December: last year’s holiday season was particularly strong (even stronger than in 2023, when Nintendo sold around 435.000 units of its hybrid console).

  1. Nintendo Switch: 452.210 (November 2024: 255.401), including 76.548 units during Week 52, 2024.
  2. PlayStation 5: 161.879 (November 2024: 151.370), including 27.130 units during Week 52, 2024.
