Corpse Party: details about the 3DS version (voiced, extra content, more)

This week, XSEED confirmed they were bringing over the Nintendo 3DS version of Corpse Party to North America this Summer. And yesterday, XSEED posted a post on their blog, in order to give some more details about that release.

Corpse PartyFirst, they confirmed what was already known since the Japanese release: the game is fully voiced, with the same VA as the PSP version it’s based on. The only exception are the bonus chapters, made exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS version, which are not voiced (with the exception of flashbacks to previous chapters). Not a single voice file was removed!

Also, this version of the game wasn’t censored in any way, just like all the other Corpse Party releases by XSEED. That M rating isn’t just for show, after all! That being said, some very minor content was indeed cut, but it’s got nothing to do with violence… Indeed, cut “content” includes a Nokia ringtone, for example!

XSEED also reminds fans that the Nintendo 3DS will indeed get a physical (but limited) release with the “Back to School” Edition. It includes:

  • the game
  • figures of Naomi Nakashima and Seiko Shinohara (with interchangeable faces);
  • soundtrack CD (~80 minutes of music from the game, including three tracks only found in the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, but also all the remaining PSP/3DS version music they could not fit on their “Songs of the Dead” compilation).

In fact, Corpse Party on Nintendo 3DS will be the very first time the original game get a physical release in English!

Finally, here’s details about the Nintendo 3DS version of the game:

Number of Extra Chapters: 14. Four exclusive to this version of the game.

Main benefits of playing this version: Exclusive Extra Chapters of considerable length and interactivity, which help fill in some gaps in the story and develop side characters who don’t otherwise get a lot of screen time. Higher resolution character sprites than its PSP counterpart, perfectly matching the resolution of the game’s background art (if this bothered you in the PSP version, you know exactly why this is so notable; if it didn’t, you’re probably just scratching your head right now!). Some new music tracks, including a really awesome arrangement of the classic Chapter 1 BGM.

Four more Extra Chapters, higher-res character sprites, 3D support for art stills, omnipresent Touch Screen menu, message log feature.

Make sure to check out XSEED’s blog for more details about the different versions of the original Corpse Party game!
