Chess Ultra to feature cross-platform multiplayer, cross-table play

Earlier this week, Ripstone Games sent a press release to share some more details about the Nintendo Switch version of Chess Ultra, which is releasing later this year. And there’s some good news for players who don’t want to run out of opponents: the game will be compatible with cross-platform multiplayer.

In other words, players on Nintendo Switch will be able to play against players on PC, and Xbox One, not just Nintendo Switch players.

Chess Ultra will also be playable in all three game modes:

  • TV Mode
  • Tabletop Mode (with the Pro Controller)
  • Handheld Mode (touchscreen, or Joy-Cons)

And in case you’re wondering: yes, you can play using the main unit as virtual chess board! The game even features an adaptive UI for cross-table play, offering the most authentic chess experience.

Finally, a quick reminder of the main features:

  • Stunning environments and beautiful chess sets, including a ‘Fire and Brimstone’ chess set that literally burns
  • 10 Grandmaster approved AI levels
  • Comprehensive time controls, including Classical, Blitz and Marathon, all available online
  • Intuitive local and online multiplayer with ELO ranking system
  • Over 80 chess puzzles
  • Re-write the past by winning the biggest historic matches
  • In-depth tutorials

Chess Ultra (Switch – eShop) doesn’t have a release date yet.
