Axiom VergeIt looks like Blitworks is going to be pretty busy with Wii U development this year! Today, it was announced that Axiom Verge is coming this year to Wii U (via the Nintendo eShop, naturally), courtesy of Blitworks. It’s their second port project this year, as they’re also working on Super Meat Boy for the Wii U.

Released last year on PC and PlayStation 4, Axiom Verge is a critically acclaimed Metroidvania, inspired by the 2D Metroid games. If you’ve been dying for a new 2D Metroid game, Axiom Verge will most certainly scratch that itch nicely. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like a Nintendo 3DS version is in the works: as explained last year, the hardware is too different (and the console itself too underpowered).

If you’ve never heard of Axiom Verge before, here’s a trailer for the PC version:

Unfortunately, we don’t know when Axiom Verge will launch on Wii U, but we do know it’s going to be this year. Also, the game will be playable at the PAX East 2016 (April 22nd – 24th), so we should have more details then.

Axiom Verge (Wii U) comes out later this year.
