In this post, you will find plenty of details, but also a trailer and screenshots/artworks for Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings (previously known as Atelier Lydie & Soeur)!

Atelier Lydie & Suelle – First trailer and Japanese release date

Here’s the first trailer for Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings!

The trailer also reveals that the game will be released on December 21st in Japan! (Yes, the Upcoming Games page has been updated with that new date!)

Atelier Lydie & Suelle – Western release

Last week, Koei-Tecmo announced that Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings would get a western release, in Early 2018.

Slated to release in Early 2018, this latest entry to GUST’s popular Atelier franchise continues from Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book and Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey, concluding the Mysterious series with an all-new heart-warming narrative.

The gripping conclusion to the Mysterious series marks the 20th Anniversary for the Atelier franchise, following the tale of the alchemist twins – the reserved but caring Lydie Marlen, and the eccentric and carefree Suelle Marlen. The young twins work alongside their father at the family atelier, but due to his inexperience in alchemy they rarely see any customers. While working hard to hone their skills, the duo uncovers a mysterious-looking painting, and as they reach out to investigate the girls are drawn inside a world bountiful with rare materials… perfect for Alchemy! This fateful discovery is just the beginning of the twin’s adventure leading them to their joint goal… to run the best atelier in the country.

Naturally, the Upcoming Games page has also been updated with that new release!

Atelier Lydie & Suelle – Details

A few days ago, Koei-Tecmo and Gust shared some more details about the game, starting with a few characters:

  • Sophie Nuenmuller (voiced by Yuuka Aisaka, designed by NOCO): a 24 year old woman (156cm tall), and an alchemist that has spent a long time traveling in order to carry out a certain “mission” of hers. She’s a senior alchemist, who gives Lydie and Suelle precious advice. Despite being a little absent-minded, her alchemy abilities are quite remarkable: her level is said to be almost equal to that of her former teacher. She uses alchemy to help people.
  • Liana Mistlud (voiced by Azusa Satou, designed by NOCO): a 22 year old woman (162cm tall), and an excellent Hunter who runs a shop called “Lovely Firis” (in Melveille). There, she sells things she collected during her hunts, in order to provide her younger sister’s atelier with operating funds. That little sister of hers is a bit a touchy topic: she’s generally pretty composed… except when that very sister is involved, which is when she can get wild. She has deep love for her.
  • Matthias Ferrié Adalet (voiced by Yuuki Inoue, designed by NOCO): a 23 year old knight (186cm tall), always wandering around Melveille. He’s definitely the frivolous and playful type, but he can be pretty serious at times, and he’s the one who volunteers as an escort for Lydie. He may be pretty skilled with the sword, he is no match of his older sister who has him under her thumb. Lydie and Suelle first meet him when Matthias invites them for cake, and they fan him pretty suspicious.

Next, some more details about the story. As you already know if you read our previous posts about this game, Lydie and Suelle have an ambition: they want to run the best atelier in the country. One day, during synthesis, they hear a voice from the basement, a place their father forbade them to enter.

Naturally, curiousity takes over, and they enter the basement anyway: inside, they find a mysterious painting. Unfortunately, they don’t really have time to look at it for long, as they’re immediately sucked into the word depicted in the painting. At first, the pair is perplexed (who wouldn’t be after being transported into another world?), but excitement quickly replace confusion, and they start exploring the world, looking for a way back home.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle features the same synthesis system as previous entries in the “Mysterious” sub-series. You start by putting ingredients into a panel, after selecting the item you want to synthesize. The first ingredient becomes the catalyst, and putting it in the panel opens up special squares. If you put ingredients in those, you get various bonuses and effects.

During synthesis, you can use Activation Items in order to change the effects and characteristics of the items you’re currently synthesizing.

Synthesis is over when you’ve chosen everything, including the special characteristic of the item ‘if there are any).
