Astral Chain: official interview, unboxing video (JP Limited Edition), more screenshots

Yesterday, the latest official blog post for Astral Chain went live. This one is from Tsukuma from PlatinumGames’ marketing division, who came to share an interview of Takahisa Taura (Director) and Masakazu Katsura (character designer). Click here to check it out!

Here’s an excerpt:

Taura: This game takes place in a sci-fi world with a police force as the main characters, but the original design documents were completely the opposite: a magical, medieval fantasy world. Nintendo stepped in and told us that the genre had been done many times before, and it lacked the hook this title needed. So we explored a lot of new ideas, and ended up with sci-fi. And the switch to sci-fi ended up being heavily influenced by ZETMAN, so I asked if we could have Katsura-san do the character design. I never expected him to accept, I mean, he’s like a legend to me. Just sitting next to him makes me tremble a little (laughs). But I remembered that he had done some Bayonetta art in the past, so I thought it might just be worth a shot.

Here’s some more pictures from the blog post, including some concept art:

But that’s not all! PlatinumGames have also shared an unboxing video of the Japanese Limited Edition:

The Limited Edition in Europe is slightly different, as it includes the following:

  • Sound Selection CD
  • Artbook (152 pages)
  • Shikishi art board with an illustration by Masakazu Katsura

Finally, here’s some more screenshots for the game, courtesy of Nintendo and Famitsu:
