My Nintendo Store to be renamed Nintendo Store this month
Named after My Nintendo (the successor to Club Nintendo, Nintendo’s late loyalty program), the My Nintendo Store is Nintendo’s very own official online store. Available in multiple regions, it offers a variety of products: consoles, accessories, games, merchandise, and more (some of which cannot be found anywhere else, except at Nintendo’s physical stores).
And starting later this month, the store is getting a “new name” (and a new logo) in at least two regions: Japan and South Korea. Nintendo is dropping the “My” from the name, and will call its official online store simply Nintendo Store moving forward. The change will go into effect on May 27th (Japan, Europe, North America) / May 28th (South Korea).
Right now, it’s not clear whether this change will be applied worldwide, but considering the official app for the store is already called Nintendo Store, it’s likely all regional stores will switch to the Nintendo Store name in the (near) future.
Update: Nintendo has confirmed the change is indeed global.
Nintendo did not comment on the name change, though the company did specify that there would be no changes to the store itself. No doubt the company is simply seeking to further differentiate its loyalty program from its online store.
