Top 5 Software
April was a fairly slow month overall with not a single game managing to sell over 100,000 units.
Super Mario Jamboree managed to climb its way back to the top of the charts for the first time in 3 months. It sold 30,875 units in April.
As for The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-, it’s off to a solid start with around 23,000 units sold during its very first week. Thanks to strong word of mouth, sales should remain relatively healthy during the next few weeks.

Publishers
In April, Nintendo was the most successful publisher with around 210.000 units sold. As usual, the evergreen titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party Jamboree did most of the heavy lifting.
Koei-Tecmo ranked #3 with around 30.000 units sold.
- Nintendo: 220.000
- Capcom: 40.000
- Koei-Tecmo: 30.000
Hardware
After a brief interruption last month, the Nintendo Switch reclaimed its title of best-selling console in Japan.
It sold “only” 110.566 units in April, which is a pretty noticeable drop compared to March. Such a drop is partly due to the tracking period for April having one less week than March, but not only. After all, it’s pretty clear that the console is finally starting to lose steam, which is hardly a surprise given April is when Nintendo finally revealed its successor and its games in great details.
Still, given the anemic state of the competition, it looks like only the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to dethrone the Nintendo Switch as best-selling console in Japan on a regular basis.
- Nintendo Switch: 110.566 (last month: 171.923)
- PlayStation 5: 38.327 (last month: 218.300)
