Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘N’ Fun! gets new game mode on May 16th (Japan)

Bandai-Namco have announced that Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘N’ Fun! is getting a new game mode via a free Software update releasing on May 16th. That mode is called “Donkatsu Fight”, and it’s basically a VS mode for up to 2 players (you can also play against the CPU if you don’t have anyone to play with). Unfortunately, it’s not playable online.

Here’s how it works: you accumulate Taiko Power by hitting the notes with the right timing. When your gauge hits 100%, your opponent takes damage. The goal is quite obviously to empty the HP gauge of your opponent before they do the same with yours! The winner is the player with the most HP left at the end, or whoever ends up knocking out their opponent.

There are various items and power-ups you can use to get the upper hand, such as one that allows you to deal three times the usual amount of damage. By the way, this mode is compatible with all the tracks available in the game, including those released via DLC. You will not be limited to a selection of tracks made specifically for this mode.

To celebrate the release of the update and the new game mode, a new track will be added for free: Gold Armor, the main theme of the new Donkatsu Fight mode. Both this song and the game mode will be available as free DLC, to be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop.

Here’s some screenshots for the Donkatsu Fight mode in Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘N’ Fun:

Unfortunately, it’s not clear if/when this update and the new Donkatsu mode will be released in Europe and North America. We should hear about it within the next few days!
