Japan – Media Create sales for Week 30, 2015 (July 20 – 26) [Top 50]

Week 30 saw the release of only one game on Nintendo platforms: the mediocre Langrisser: Re:Incarnation Tensei, which was poorly received from both the press and players. It didn’t sell well at all, with only 9 300 units sold during the first four days, and it’s pretty much guaranteed to leave the Top 20 as early as next week.

In the rest of the Top 20, we have Yo-kai Watch Busters: Aka Neko-dan / Shiro Inu-tai, which is still #1 with 95 369 units sold during its third week on the market. In total, the game sold over 1 million units (1 009 905 to be more precise), and it’s actually the 4th Yo-kai Watch game to reach that milestone after Yo-kai Watch, Yo-kai Watch 2 Ganso / Honke and Yo-kai Watch Shin Uchi.

In the Top 20, various games on Nintendo platforms got a (slight) boost this week:

– Splatoon: +8%
– Mario Kart 8: +1%
– Super Run For Money Tousouchuu Atsumare! Saikyou no Tousou Monotachi: +37%
– Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire: +1%
– Animal Crossing: New Leaf: +13%
– Girls Mode 3: KiraKira Code +9%

For most of these games, the boost is due to the beginning of the Summer holidays, though for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, there is also the upcoming release of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and the marketing campaign. Other games are also selling well, such as Fire Emblem Fates or Rhythm Heaven: The Best +.

Hardware-wise, both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS are up compared to last week.

For once, let’s start with the Wii U, which sold 11 257 units during this first week of the Summer holidays. More surprisingly, sales are actually up year on year: 323 220 in 2015 vs 323 076 in 2014. In other words, Splatoon has been having a bigger impact on Wii U sales, which isn’t all that surprising since it’s a brand new IP not attracting the usual Nintendo fans. Now it remains to be seen if sales will also be better during the second half of the year…

As for the Nintendo 3DS, it sold 28 874 units during Week 30, compared to 26 971 during Week 29… and 38 445 compared to Week 30 in 2014. The handheld is still lagging behind last year, and week after week, the gap between the 2014 YTD total and the 2015 YTD total just keeps on getting bigger. Unfortunately, it’s not bound to get any better during the second half of 2015, what with the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS in 2014…
