Frozenbyte brings Has-Been Heroes to the Nintendo Switch; trailer, details, and screens

Frozenbyte is mostly known for the Trine series, but their latest game has nothing in common with it. Called Has-Been Heroes, it tells the tale of a band of heroes tasked by the King to escort his twin princesses to the Princess Academy. The developers describe as a challenging, rogue-like game of strategy and action.

As far as gameplay goes, you’re in control of the three heroes, and by combining hundred of spells, you have to repel enemies on the way to the Princess Academy. That’s actually one of the main elements of the game: combining those spells to create impressive and devastating combos.

And you will need to experiment a lot, because the quantity and randomness of spells force you to change your play style often, so you need to adapt prtty fast if you don’t want to die a pitiful and permanent death. Has-Been Heroes also features irreverent humor, expanding world maps, and increasing levels of difficulty.

Finally, here’s the main features:

Has-Been Heroes is a challenging game of strategy and action, where the player controls three characters across three lanes, and must learn to combine hundreds of different spells for different combo effects.

  • A combination of turn-based and RTS game mechanics featuring easy-to-learn basics that are tough to master and evolve into frantic complexity.
  • Filled with unlockables that will keep the game fresh each time including 300+ spells, 200+ items, 14 regions, and 12 heroes.
  • Each run is different, and with each level the length of gameplay increases, compounded by the peril of instant death, which forces the player to start over from the beginning.
  • The game takes advantage of many of the unique features of Nintendo Switch – from the controller’s innovative HD Rumble to the ability to seamlessly go from console to portable while never stopping the adventure.
