France: 160 000 units for the SNES Mini, 1 million games for the Switch during next 2 months

Yesterday, during the usual meeting with investors, Nintendo revealed that worldwide sales of the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES Mini in short, also known as Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition in North America, and Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom in Japan) have topped 2 million units.

In France, the SNES Mini has already sold over 160 000 units, roughly a month after its release. In comparison, the NES Mini sold “only” 100 000 units over its lifetime (but was heavily supply constrained, like everywhere else in the world), and the Nintendo Switch 105 000 units at launch (over 400 000 units to date)!

According to Philippe Lavoué from Nintendo France, basically 95% of all units shipped to retailers end up sold. And the thing is, the holiday season is yet to come, so there’s little reason to believe sales are going to slow down any time soon. And with Nintendo promising further shipments through the rest of the year, but also into 2018, the future of the SNES Mini in the country looks quite bright.

Also, still in France, Nintendo is expecting to sell about 1 million games during the remaining two months of the year. Unfortunately, we don’t know how many have been sold so far, to use as comparison…
