The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to be Nintendo’s final Wii U game

On March 3rd, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released worldwide. The Wii U version of the game will release alongside the Wii U version, as Nintendo eventually chose not to do the same as for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (launched a few days after the Wii version).

If you’re wondering if Nintendo has anything else in the works for the Wii U, the answer is… no! The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will quite literally be Nintendo’s last Wii U game. Of course, it will not be the final Wii U game period (we can expect more third-party titles, like Just Dance 2018, not to mention indies), but for Nintendo, it’s the end of the line.

Naturally, that means that Project Giant Robot (the title that Nintendo’s using to fill up its release plannings for investors) will never be released, at least not on Wii U. Last time we heard about it, Shigeru Miyamoto explaiend that it “was something we started as a second project, and unfortunately we haven’t yet decided to turn that into a full game”.

Of course, Nintendo isn’t going to pull the plug on online for Wii U games, such as Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. If they do, it’s certainly not going to happen overnight, and not without warning players beforehand.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U, Switch) will be released on March 3rd, worldwide.
