Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: overview trailer and additional footage and details

After Xenoblade Chronicles X and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition earlier this year, a third Xenoblade Chronicles game is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition next week (on July 30th, to be precise): Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

If you already own the game on Nintendo Switch, you will be able to get an upgrade pack and enjoy all the benefits and improvements of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition without having to repurchase the whole game again.

And if you own the stand-alone edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country, a free update will be released so you can enjoy the improved performance in this game too.

Finally, do note that the Expansion Pass needs to be purchased separately if you don’t already own it on Nintendo Switch. It’s not included in the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (digital or physical).

Join Rex and Pyra in their search for paradise, now enhanced for the Nintendo Switch 2 system! The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of this game features improved visuals, smoother and sharper cutscenes, new outfit designs for Pyra and Mythra, and more. Control up to six Blades directly in the new Merc Assault mode, and discover MOMO—a new rare Blade who can swap between light and dark forms.

Nintendo Switch 2 players who already have Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by purchasing the upgrade pack.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition offers greatly enhanced resolution and performance, with 4k resolution in TV Mode, and 1080p in Handheld Mode. The game now runs at 60fps, with smoother camera movement compared to the Nintendo Switch version.

This version of the game feature more than just performance improvements. There’s some additional content too, such as Momo (voiced by Rumi Shishido in Japanese), a new Blade with two forms:

• Momo: Real Mode (Light attribute).
• Momo (i): Imaginary Mode (Dark attribute).

You can freely switch between modes from the Characters screen or even during battle, which makes it easier to chain Blade Combos. Make sure to switch modes depending on the situation in order to get the upper hand!

Momo can heal allies, and her powers of perception and observation are without peer. She attacks enemies and heals allies by throwing her ball-like companion around.

If you want to find out more about Momo, make sure to check out her Blade Quest; do so, and you will discover a new side of her! (You must first meet certain requirements in order to unlock that Quest).

Also, there’s a brand new game mode for you to try out: Merc Assault, an action game mode where you get to play as Blades.

In this mode, you get to control the Blades directly. You select up to 6 Blades, and then send them into battle. You use buttons to attack and guard, and you can use special moves too. Try to clear the various stages within the time limit. Do so, and you will get some juicy rewards!

Among the various rewards you can earn in this mode are new outfits for Pyra and Mythra. Once you’ve unlocked them, you can switch outfits from the Game Settings in the Options.

Alternatively, you can unlock these costumes by tapping the Pyra and/or Mythra amiibo!

Speaking of amiibo, you can tap one to get bonuses such as EXP or items up to three times a day.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Nintendo Switch 2) comes out on July 30th digitally, and October 1st at retail.
