Splatoon: tweets and pics of the day, Mario Kart 8-level marketing campaign in the UK, more

Marketing campaign in the UK

Nintendo is betting big on Splatoon, especially in the UK where the company is promoting the game with a Mario Kart 8-level marketing push. In an interview published on MCV UK, Nandra Nair (marketing manager) explained that it would include:

digital billboards
– cinema ads before Tomorrowland (targeting kids) and before Mad Max (targeting adults)
– sponsorship on Cartoon Network
– an online campaign (actually started in April), like on Kongregate for example
– Splatoon-themed skatepark in Corby

Here’s a video of the Splatoon-themed skatepark in Corby (which is actually Adrenaline Alley, in Corby):

For Chandra Nair, Splatoon has a lot of potential, which is why the company is really confident in it. This confidence is quite noticeable with that strong marketing push, on a scope similar to Mario Kart 8’s, last year. Splatoon is an opportunity for Nintendo to reach an audience that might not have considered Wii U before, according to Nintendo UK’s marketing manager.

Squid Research Lab

Today, the Squid Research Lab posted three additional tweets on the official Twitter account for Splatoon. The first two talk about handwritten messages sent to Miiverse: those actually appear in-game, as graffiti! But in order to have your messages appear in other people’s game, you need to use the post box in the Central Plaza of Inkopolis.

If you press ZR while in Inkopolis, you can use the zoom camera. This tool is quite useful, with various possible uses. The Squid Research Lab showcased one: if you zoom on a graffiti, you can see the original message, and go check it out on Miiverse.

Finally, they published their second countdown pic. Only 6 days to go in Japan!

As bonus, here’s two pictures of the New Nintendo 3DS cover plates, sent by the Squid Research Lab:

Splatoon Global Testfire

Yesterday evening, Nintendo of America uploaded a promotional video for the Splatoon Global Testfire demo, and the last play session this week-end:

Splatoon (Wii U) comes out on May 28th in Japan, and May 29th in Europe and North America.
