Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash – More details (amiibo, modes, launch offer)

Mario Tennis Ultra SmashToday, previews for Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash went live, providing us with new details about the game. This was followed by an overview trailer, and then two press releases from both Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America, revealing some additional tidbits and a neat offer for European players.

First, here’s the list of amiibo compatible:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Peach
  • Bowser
  • Yoshi
  • Yarn Yoshis
  • Rosalina
  • Wario
  • Toad
  • Donkey Kong

Next, we have a (partial) list of modes:

  • Knockout Challenge: tiebreak matches against the CPU, which becomes tougher and tougher. Only playable in Single Player, though you can use an amiibo to help you out.
  • Mega Battle: the matches with Mega Mushrooms.
  • Classic Tennis: more “traditional” game modes (click here for more details).
  • Online Multiplayer: you can play against players from all around the world in competitive ranked matches in Mega Battle and Classic Tennis modes. You can also go for some more casual matches. Online is playable with up to 4 players, including two on the same Wii U. amiibo can be used for double matches.

Finally, Nintendo announced that all players who buy Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash from the Nintendo eShop will get a download code for Mario Tennis (Nintendo 64), on the Wii U Virtual Console. This offer will only be available in Europe during the four weeks following the game’s release, on November 20th.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (Wii U) comes out on November 20th in Europe and North America, and later this year in Japan.
