Japan: more sales data for Week 46, Pokémon Sun and Moon, 3DS models, pre-orders (Media Create)
Media Create – Week 46
Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 46. During that week, Software sales topped 1.982 million units, which is 406.55% of Week 45 sales: a massive increase quite obviously attributed to Pokémon Sun and Moon.
The latest entry in the Pokémon series sold:
- Pokémon Sun: 808 000 units
- Pokémon Moon: 783 000 units
- Pokémon Sun and Moon: 1.591 million units
- Dual-Pack: 151 000 units
- Total (Dual-pack counted as two units): 1 893 387 (sell-through ratio: 80%).
In comparison, Pokémon X and Y sold 1 866 570 units back in 2013 (without a dual-pack). In other words, Pokémon Sun and Moon did pretty well, which is quite the relief after many series underperformed this year (especially Yo-kai Watch 3: Sushi / Tempura).
That being said, things were not looking too hot for Pokémon Sun and Moon before launch. According to Media Create, total pre-orders topped 1 406 000 units, as opposed to 1.74 million units for Pokémon X and Y, despite the significantly longer pre-order period. While Pokémon GO definitely had a positive impact on sales, it doesn’t look like it did much for pre-orders…
Quite interestingly, Media Create also shares data for the two Pokémon New Nintendo 3DS XL models:
- New Nintendo 3DS XL – Pikachu Yellow: 34 000 units
- New Nintendo 3DS XL – Solgaleo and Lunala: 9 000 units
This helped boost Nintendo 3DS, with 81 000 units sold for the New Nintendo 3DS (XL) (398.36% of Week 45 sales), and 107 631 units for all models (333.21% of Week 45 sales).
