Japan: more sales data for Week 4 2018, January (Media Create, Dengeki)

Media Create (Week 4)

Today, Media Create published their weekly report on video game sales in Japan during Week 3, 2018. It reveals that total Software sales topped 1 551 000 units, which is 340.59% of Week 3 sales. Sales more than tripled, and it’s absolutely not due to that “monster” game on PlayStation 4. Really.

Unfortunately, that’s pretty much it for this week, which was pretty uneventful for Nintendo platforms.

This week, we have the Day 1 sell-through for one, lone Nintendo Switch game:

• [NSW] The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda Softworks) – 30%. Seemingly better than expected for such a game on Nintendo Switch.

Dengeki (Week 4, January)

For Week 4, Dengeki report that Hardware sales are up by 83.4%, to 209 000 units. As for Software, sales recorded a dramatic increase: +247.7% at once, to 2 444 000 units.

In January (January 1st to January 28th), Hardware sales increased by 62% (compared to the same month last year), to 800 000 units. As for Software, sales are also up: +48.9%, with 3.8 million units sold. Looking at revenue, Hardware sales almost doubled with +96.5% Year on Year and 23.5 billion Yen. Software sales are also up, with +87% and 50.3 billion Yen generated.

Overall, the market as a whole grew in January, with 50.3 billion Yen generated (+87%). It’s the 7th month in a row that the market grew in Japan, which is a pretty positive sign.
