Treachery in Beatdown City
Nuchallenger have announced a game for the Nintendo Switch: Treachery in Beatdown City, a tactical street brawler. It will be released on March 31st in Europe and North America.
Here’s a trailer, some details, and the list of key features:
Players will battle it out over five dense urban maps spanning the diverse sites and off-beat people of East Fulton in their quest to rescue kidnapped President Blake Orama. Featuring music from Chiptunes legend Inverse Phase and a innovative tactical battle system that allows players to strategically create and execute customized combos, Treachery in Beatdown City provides a unique mashup of strategic combat, comedic modern day political satire and classic 80s arcade goodness.
When US President Blake Orama is kidnapped by Ninja Dragon Terrorists, it’s up to three street warriors, police cadet Lisa Santiago, retired pro-wrestler Brad Steele and martial arts master Bruce Maxwell to take to the streets to battle through the ridiculous chaos (and annoying urbanites) of East Fulton to ultimately save the day. Each warrior has their own unique fighting style which players will further customize with an all new battle system combining the best parts of beat ‘em ups, fighting games, turn based tactics and RPGS!
- Switch between 3 fighters in between fights – Lisa Santiago, an MMA fighter and Boxer, Bruce Maxwell, a Jeet Kune Do/Capoeira specialist, and a Brad “The Bull Killer” Steele, a former professional wrestler.
- Choose from dozens of attacks to create long chains of strike combos, grapple combos, and strikeagrapple-ombos!
- Use a mix of real time and tactical COMBO MENU based attacks to tackle your foes!
- Fight over 40 class based enemies, each with a health based behavior system built to change up attacks and keep players on their toes!
- Music by Inverse Phase, creator of such albums as Pretty Eight Machine and the Chipping of Isaac
- Take in the sites of East Holden with 5 unique maps that take you through a lovingly crafted city complete with rivers, Chinatown, and of course, City Hall
- Learn about your heroes and enemies through comedic cutscenes filled with political satire, microaggressions (made famous in Get Out), and Ren and Stimpy inspired cutscene art

Edward Hyde, the man of insanity. His cruelty and violence begin to poison the backstreets of London. Nothing is known about him. Age, occupation, identity, background ─ nothing. Surprisingly, he is also the named beneficiary of Dr. Henry Jekyll, the famous scholar and man of wealth. What could Edward Hyde really be……?
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a classic novel published in 1886. The novel’s unique and attractive depiction of human’s innate darkness has led to its rebirth as a movie, a game, a musical, etc. for two centuries. In MazM: Jekyll and Hyde, you are one of the characters in the novel and will solve the mysteries in the story more immersive than a graphic novel. Even if you know the book, MazM: Jekyll and Hyde will give you a fresh feeling throughout the gameplay.
London is divided into five areas in the game. The next clue is located somewhere in one of those areas. In an adventure game, the player explores every corner of each area and snoops for information to progress to the next level. Some people might think it is difficult, but they don’t have to worry about that at all. Whenever the player approaches an important NPC or an object, “!” indicator will appear, telling the player something is up. The game will be easy as long as you keep exploring the areas of London and focus on monologues and conversations.
Meet the citizens and collect evidence from them. Discover clues through [Text Files]. Various mini-games and using your own reason during the investigation also makes the gameplay immersive. You will often read letters during the gameplay. Find the password to open the lock.
You will pursue Edward Hyde as Utterson, the lawyer. Although Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are major characters, it is Gabriel John Utterson that leads the story as an observer and protagonist. Utterson has to unveil Hyde’s true identity and protect Jekyll, both as a lawyer and as his friend. You can see the events from Jekyll’s or Hyde’s point of view in [Additional Cases].
Following “!”s will eventually lead you to the ending, but why don’t you take some time to explore the city of London while enjoying the story? If you’re the achiever type, this will be necessary for you to unlock all achievements. Talk to the NPC whenever you see an icon above his or her head. Gather facts about the 19th century London and fill in [London File] with what you’ve learned.
