Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club – Multi-chapter demo announced; new videos and commercial

Nintendo has just announced that Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is to get a demo version next week. It will be released on August 20th (August 19th in North America due to timezone difference), and will allow you to try out the first 3 chapters of the game. However, there’s a neat twist: only the 1st chapter is available right away, and the other two chapters are unlocked on different days.

Here’s the schedule:

August 19th/20th: Prologue and Chapter 1 (demo launch)
August 22nd/23rd: Chapter 2
August 27th/28th: Chapter 3

Note: the new chapters unlock at 6PM PT / 9PM ET / 2AM BST / 3AM CEST / 10AM JST. Nintendo mentions that the demo will need to be updated in order to get access to the new chapters.

Nintendo refers to this chapter rollout as a “Preliminary Joint Investigation”. The goal is to have players share their thoughts about the game as the story unfolds. Naturally, if you download the demo after the dates listed above, you will have access to all the chapters right away.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering: yes, you can transfer your progress to the full version of the game! So feel free to get an early start in your investigation, as you won’t have to restart it from scratch when the full version of Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club launches.
