Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle announced for the Nintendo Switch, out in July

Attack on Titan 2 was released nearly a year ago, in March 2018, just before the start of the 3rd season of the Attack on Titan anime series. As a result, it didn’t really include content from that season, only the first two. Does that mean fans will have to buy a third game in order to enjoy events from the third season? The answer is… yes and no! Today, Crunchyroll got its hands on an exclusive reveal: Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle!

Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle is not quite a new game: it’s actually a massive expansion for Attack on Titan 2, adding contents from the 3rd season of the anime series. It features characters and missions from the 3rd season, with over 40 playable characters, but also original episodes that expand the story, and even new weapons like Thunder Spears (said to be particularly useful against that pesky Armoured Titan).

But that’s not all: this expansion will also debut a brand new mode called Wall Reclamation Mode. It tasks you with taking back territory from the Titans, after putting up your very own squad. Also, the game will offer an “anti-personnel battle experience”, where you have to deal with ODM-equipped killers.

If you already own Attack on Titan 2, there’s nothing to worry about: you will not have to buy another 69.99€/$ game to get the full experience. Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle will be available in two “versions”:

  • stand-alone, at retail
  • as paid DLC for the original version of the game, for those of you who already own it

Koei-Tecmo should make its own announcement tomorrow, so we should get additional details by then (including whether the DLC for the base game is included in the stand-alone version or not). In the mean time, here’s the debut trailer and some screenshots (warning: may contain spoilers):

Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle (Switch) comes out on July 4th in Japan, and July 5th in Europe and North America. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!
