[Japan] Famitsu sales for February 2026 (Top 5 Software, Publishers, Hardware)

Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu, with Hardware and Software sales for February 2026 in Japan (January 26th to February 22nd, so 4 weeks in total).

Famitsu

Top 5 Software

The latest game in the Yakuza series, Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties sold over 108.000 units during its launch month. The Nintendo Switch 2 version sold only 18.929 units, which is a respectable result for the first simultaneous release of a Yakuza game on a Nintendo platform.

As for Mario Tennis Fever, it missed the Top 5 Software by a hair (less than 500 units!) with 54.099 units sold.

That’s a sharp drop from its predecessor on Nintendo Switch (over 120.000 units during launch week for Mario Tennis Aces), but seeing that Mario sports game usually tend to sell in the long run, this new entry should see steady sales in the coming weeks and months (especially with the Super Mario Galaxy movie on the horizon).

Publishers

Once in a blue moon, Nintendo is not the most successful publisher in Japan during a given month, and February 2026 just happened to be one such month!

Due to a lack of major releases (only Mario Tennis Fever was released, and it saw relatively modest sales at launch), the company sold “only” 329.000 games in February. The majority of those sales come from the usual evergreen titles (including the “new” release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons).

SEGA is #3 with 126.000, and most of those sales come from Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties.

  1. Square-Enix: 594.000
  2. Nintendo: 329.000
  3. SEGA: 126.00
Hardware

February saw a noticeable drop in sales for the Nintendo Switch 2, with “only” 256.000 units sold in four weeks. Of course, the main reason sales dropped that much is because of New Year’s week in January, which provided a big boost for both Hardware and Software sales during that month.

Interest for the Nintendo Switch 2 remains quite high in Japan. With the worst of the chronic shortages behind, the console is now readily available in stores, which means sales should remain strong and steady in the upcoming weeks and months (that is, as long as Nintendo can keep up with demand!).

  1. Nintendo Switch 2 – 256.485 (January 2026: 453.433)
  2. Nintendo Switch – 74.477 (January 2026: 91.109)
