[Japan] Famitsu sales for October 2025 (Top 5 Software, Publishers, Hardware)
Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu, with Hardware and Software sales for October 2025 in Japan (September 29th to October 26th, so 4 weeks in total).

Top 5 Software
With Mario Kart World being bundled with the Nintendo Switch 2, it was always going to take a truly major release to remove it from the #1 spot in Famitsu’s monthly Top 5 Software. And such a release has finally arrived: Pokémon Legends: Z-A on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2!
The two versions combined sold well over 1.7 million units combined during the first couple of weeks, with over 1 million units sold for the Nintendo Switch version and almost 700,000 units for the Nintendo Switch 2 version. A pretty decent performance for the latter, given the difference in install base.
Famitsu points out that Pokémon Legends: Z-A was the strongest launch so far in 2025 (and it’s unlikely any of the remaining releases will do better). Its sales are also fairly close to those of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which sold 1,784,000 units during the first couple of weeks.
Finally, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 managed to land in the Top 5 Software with just a little over 85,000 units sold during its launch month. A pretty decent debut, though sales should increased noticeably in the coming weeks (with the holidays) and next year (with the release of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie).

Publishers
As happens every time a new main Pokémon game is released, Nintendo was not the most successful publisher in Japan in October. The Pokémon Company “stole” its crown with a whopping 1.77 million units sold.
Unsurprisingly, Pokémon Legends: Z-A makes up the vast majority of those sales, though Pokémon Scarlet and Violet did contribute a little, too.
Meanwhile, Nintendo sold 413.000 units in October: that’s slightly better than in September (around 366.000 units), thanks to increased Nintendo Switch 2 sales and the release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Mario Kart World and the usual evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch makes up most of the company’s remaining sales in October.
- The Pokémon Company: 1.77 million units
- Nintendo: 413.000 units
- Sony Interactive Entertainment: 179.000 units
Hardware
For the 5th month in a row, the Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in Japan with over 350,000 units sold.
That’s more than double what it sold in September, and of course, the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A (and its Hardware bundle) was one of the factors behind that dramatic increase (the other being, of course, Nintendo shipping more consoles to retailers).
Meawnhile, the Nintendo Switch did see a rather modest increase (around +13,000 units), in part due to the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A (though the focus was clearly on the Nintendo Switch 2 version).
- Nintendo Switch 2 – 358.399 (previous month: 175.542)
- Nintendo Switch – 96.080 (previous month: 82.946)
