Top 5 Software

For the 3rd month in a row, Mario Kart World was the best-selling game in August 2025 in Japan with over 260.000 units sold (not too surprising given it’s bundled with the Nintendo Switch 2, and with said bundle being by far the most popular SKU).

As for Donkey Kong Bananza, it was once again the second best-selling game with over 100.000 units sold.

The best-selling entry in August is none other than the Nintendo Switch version of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2, which ranked #3. The Nintendo Switch version sold nearly 100.000 units on its own, and all versions combined sold around 129.000 units (therefore making the Nintendo Switch the best-selling SKU by far).

As for the Nintendo Switch version of Super Robot Wars Y, it managed to find itself a spot in the Top 5. It ranked #5 with over 60.000 units sold on Nintendo Switch, and 92.000 units sold for all versions combined.

Finally, Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar did not rank, but sold around 65.000 across both versions (Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2).

Publishers

Once again, Nintendo was the most successful publisher in Japan with nearly 700.000 units sold. Just like last month, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza did most of the heavy lifting (they alone account for over half of sales during August), though the usual evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch also enjoyed strong sales.

Bandai-Namco ranked #2 in August with around 156.000 units sold. Super Robot Wars Y account for most of those sales.

Finally, Aniplex ranked #3 with around 132.000 units sold. Just like Bandai-Namco, those sales mostly come from a recent release; in this case, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2.
