Puzzle & Dragons X: more details and scans from Famitsu (monster, gameplay systems)

Puzzle & Dragons XLast week, Puzzle & Dragons X was featured in Famitsu magazine, and got a 4-page article showing some of the monsters, and detailing some new and returning gameplay systems. Let’s start with the monsters, and what was already confirmed previously: some of them will only appear in a specific version (Kami no Shou/Chapter of the Gods or Ryuu no Shou/Chapter of the Dragons).

The version-exclusive monsters seem to be based on either:

  • iconic (Japanese) Gods/ Goddesses for the Kami no Shou version (1st scan), such as Amaterasu, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Lucifer, Tsukuyomi
  • famous myths and legends for the Ryuu no Shou version (2nd scan), such as Kagu-tsuchi, Orochi, and more.

At the start of the game, you can chose among three monsters (similar to the starters in Pokémon): Mizuha, Ouka, and Enju. What’s special about those monsters is that they have a third evolution (one stage further than regular monsters).

But besides monsters, Tamazo (your partner) also fights by your side during battles. As mentioned previously, he can wear special Soul Armour, which allows him to use the same skills as the monsters they’re based on. The 4th scan below shows that they’re based on the following monsters:

  • Izanagi
  • Lucifer
  • Amaterasu
  • Zeus
  • Gadius
  • Sonia

Head after the break for the rest of this post, and the scans!

Dragoza Island is where Puzzle & Dragons X takes place, and as mentioned previously, it’s divided in 5 regions (based on the 5 elements of the game: Water, Wood, Fire, Light, Shadow). The second scan below show the map of the island.

Next, there’s some new and returning gameplay systems.

Just like in the original Puzzle & Dragons, you match 3 or more drops together in a line in order to attack with the element of the drops. If you manage to match at least 7 drops at once, you will be to activate Cross Drop. Thanks to it, you can use Cross Attacks, which are more powerful than regular attacks.  However, you have to be careful: the more often you use Cross Drops, the more agressive and powerful monsters get.

Famitsu also details some additional facilities to be found in the game:

  • Dragoza Messenger (run by an old man called MultiG): that’s where you go to send and exchange data with other players. This allows you to send messages, ask for trades, and more. You can also edit your profile.
  • Monster Lab: that’s where you go to train and evolve your monsters. You can even give away those you don’t need. There’s several ways to make monsters stronger, such as fusion (some monsters can only evolve by fusioning with another one).

As for the music, Famitsu confirms that the sound team from the mobile game (including the one and only Kenji Ito, but also Yukio Nakajima) is back for Puzzle & Dragons X.

Finally, some good news for players who like extra content: Famitsu reveals that additional monsters and dungeons will be available for download following the game’s launch (such as Zeus, Satan, or Athena). There’s also a screenshot showing a VS mode, which will be detailed in the next Famitsu article!

Here’s the scans from Famitsu magazine:

Finally, some news about the anime series (which debuts on July 4th at 6.25PM on TV Tokyo): Shiori Tomita will perform the ending theme song. Here’s the latest key visual:
