Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is based on western version of the TCG

Konami have put up a notice about Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, which comes out in a few hours in Japan. That notice is about an error on the official website and in the latest issue of V-Jump, which stated that the game included cards all the way to the Yu-Gi-Oh! OGC Deck Build Pack Hidden Summoners. The correct text should have read: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Hidden Summoners.

In other words, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is based on the western version of the TCG, not the Japanese one. This isn’t that big a deal for western players (for obvious reasons), but it certainly is for Japanese players.

After all, even if the game includes cards that are available in all regions, there’s various differences between the Japanese and western version of the TCG. This is important for multiplayer, because of restrictions impacting some of the cards. You can find the list of cards that are banned/restricted on this page (Japanese-only).

Konami stopped pre-orders for the game in Japan, and is currently looking at a way to compensate players who pre-purchased before the product page was updated (since Nintendo does not offer refunds for games purchased on the Nintendo eShop, even pre-ordered games before their release).

This should have no impact on the western release of the game, which hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution (Switch – eShop) comes out on April 25th in Japan.
