Yooka-Laylee releasing next month on Nintendo Switch (Dec. 14th); available for pre-purchase next week
After many months of waiting, the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee is finally ready for release. It certainly took a while (it’s been available on other platforms since April), and a platform switch (literally: it was originally announced for the Wii U, before being moved to the Nintendo Switch), but Playtonic is finally ready to bring the glory of Rare-style googly eyes and collect-a-thon 3D platforming to the Nintendo eShop!
Yooka-Laylee will be released on December 14th, but it will be available for pre-purchase on the Nintendo eShop from December 7th.
This version of the game will feature a “shed-load” of polish and updates, including the many improvements that were added via a Software update to the other versions, post-launch (brand new camera mode, control improvements, menu options, music, etc.). What’s more, there’s a couple of exclusive features:
- single Joy-Con play for the 8 multiplayer games
- a custom achievement system (since there’s no system-wide achievements system on Nintendo Switch)
One of the reasons it took so long for the game to be released on Nintendo Switch is that Playtonic Games actually spent many months optimising the game for the console. They even got technical help of both Nintendo and Unity.
Here’s a short video clip and some screenshots for Yooka-Laylee on Nintendo Switch:
