[Japan] Famitsu sales for August 2026 (Top 5 Software, Publishers, Hardware)
Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu, with Hardware and Software sales for August 2026 in Japan (July 27th to August 30th, so 5 weeks in total).
Top 5 Software
After a stellar debut back in July, Rhythm Heaven Groove once again topped the Software charts in August. It sold around 271,000 units during its second month, which brings total sales to 946,000. It will have no trouble reaching the 1 million units milestone by the end of the month!
As you can see for yourself, Nintendo grabbed the top 3 spots in August with the same three titles as in July.
Next up, it seems that Nippon Ichi Software has renewed with success at last: Village in the Shade sold around 57.000 units at retail during its launch month, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version accounting for over half of those sales. And digital sales are fairly strong too, as you can see in the latest Nintendo eShop Sales Rankings.
Finally, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is off to a pretty decent start with over 27.000 units sold in just three days. It missed the Top 5 Software by just a hair… or rather, a couple thousand units!

Publishers
In August, Nintendo was once again the most successful publisher in Japan. Sales did drop by nearly 50% (mainly due to lack of new releases), but they remain remarkably strong: around 744.000 units sold in total!
Konami was #2 in August with around 161.000 units sold thanks to new releases (such as Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2) and recently released titles (like POWER PROS 2026-2027). Finally, Happinet was #3 with around 63.000 units sold.
- Nintendo: 744.000
- Konami: 161.000
- Happinet: 63.000
Hardware
Nintendo Switch 2 sales saw another slight increase in August with around 139.000 units sold. However, that increase is pretty much exclusively due to the tracking period for August having 5 week instead of 4 in July (sales would have been slightly down otherwise). The console keeps on trucking at a steady pace, but there’s no denying the price hike back in May has slowed down the momentum.
- Nintendo Switch 2 – 139.165 (previous month: 136.648)
- PlayStation 5 – 43.810 (previous month: 41.065)
