PokéCoins
Niantic have announced some changes regarding the way you can earn PokéCoins. Right now, you can only get them by defending Gyms, but in the future, you will be able to get some by completing various activities. To balance this, the following changes will also be implemented:
- Gyms: PokéCoins earned from defending them reduced from 6 to 2 per hour
- Maximum number of PokéCoins you can earn in a day bumped to 55
Here’s the activities that will allow you to earn PokéCoins moving forward:
- Make an Excellent Throw
- Evolve a Pokémon
- Make a Great Throw
- Use a Berry to help catch a Pokémon
- Take a snapshot of your buddy
- Catch a Pokémon
- Power up a Pokémon
- Make a Nice Throw
- Transfer a Pokémon
- Win a raid
Those changes will first go into effect in Australia, where a large-scale test will be ran. Niantic will then collect feedback and perform additional testing before rolling out the changes to all players worldwide.

Johto Throwback Timed Research
Due to an issue, the Johto Throwback Timed Research is only rewarding 5 Rare Candies instead of 10, as initially planned. Those 5 missing Rare Candies are not lost, however: they will be available from the first page of the Hoenn Throwback Timed Research.
