Nintendo Switch 2: launch week sales [Update 2: Worldwide]

With over 152 million units sold since launch, the Nintendo Switch is virtually guaranteed to become Nintendo’s best-selling game console ever, beating the record set by the Nintendo DS and its +154 million units sold (a record that many thought untouchable). And with such a popular predecessor, it’s hard not to wonder if the Nintendo Switch 2 has any chance of enjoying such unprecedented popularity and breaking sales record at a similar pace.

But before we wonder about what the Nintendo Switch 2 will have sold many years later down the line, let’s take a look at launch week (June 5th to June 8th).

Worldwide

Nintendo has sent a press release to announce that the Nintendo Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units worldwide during the first four days. That’s a significant increase over the original Nintendo Switch, which ended up selling 1.75 million units during a similar period, and 2.74 million during its launch month.

Nintendo also points out that it’s the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days. In other words, the Nintendo Switch 2 is off to an extremely promising start!

However, it’s worth nothing that the original Nintendo Switch suffered from massive shortages, while the Nintendo Switch 2 is (relatively) easier to find in stores thanks to much ample supply (as Nintendo wasn’t caught with its pants down this time around and was prepared to cope up with demand).

Still, there’s no denying Nintendo Switch 2 is indeed selling out in many places, but unlike its predecessor, it’s been getting a surprisingly steady stream of additional shipments.

Unfortunately, Nintendo’s press release does not provide any further sales data, let alone a regional breakdown of sales.

Spain

In Spain, the Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a fantastic start with no less than 108.000 units sold. That’s over twice more than the previous best console launch in the country (the PlayStation 5, and the PSP).

Here’s the Top 10 of console launches in Spain:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 – 108.000

In total, the game sold around 95.000 units, making it the best-selling game of the year so far in Spain (if you add all versions combined, Electronic Arts FC 25 is #1).

France

According to Oscar Lemaire, the Nintendo Switch 2 sold around 169.000 during its launch week in France. It’s by far the best launch ever for a console in the country: better than the PlayStation 5 (the previous record holder with 107.000 units sold) and the Nintendo Switch (105.000 units sold).

Game-wise, Mario Kart World is also off to a strong start with 160.000 units, mostly from the bundle. At retail, it’s the best launch for a game so far this year, with Mario and co. doing better than Assassin’s Creed: Shadows (120.000 units sold at retail). It’s also the best debut for a Nintendo game following Super Mario Bros. Wonder (around 170.000 units).

United Kingdom (June 5th to June 7th)

According to data from NielsenIQ, the Nintendo Switch 2 had a great debut in the United Kingdom. In fact, it’s the best-selling launch ever for Nintendo in the country, outselling the original Switch by over x2. This implies the console sold at least 160.000 units.
