Yo-kai Watch: ~100 000 DVD+Blu-Ray sold for the movie during 1st week, poster for the 2nd movie

The first Yo-kai Watch movie opened on December 20th, and it was a smash hit even before it came out with over 1 million tickets pre-purchased… an all-time record for TOHO (the distributor)! Since then, the movie has generated well over 7.6 billion yen in revenue, making it one of the most successful movies ever in Japan.

And it looks like the movie isn’t quite done breaking records! Last week, it was revealed that the DVD debuted in the #1 spot of the Oricon’s weekly anime DVD chart for the July 6 – 12 week, with over 85 000 copies sold. In just a couple of days, the first Yo-kai Watch movie became the best-selling anime DVD of the year in Japan (so far), and it also made it to #1 of the overall DVD chart.

But that’s not all: the movie also debuted at #1 in Oricon’s weekly anime Blu-ray chart for the July 6 – 12 week, with over 14 000 units sold, making it to #2 of the overall Blu-Ray chart. In total, the two versions of the movie have already sold over 100 000 units, and there’s no doubt it will keep on selling during the next few weeks, especially during the Summer holidays.

Finally, the poster of the second Yo-kai Watch movie, called “Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan!” (lit. “Yo-kai Watch: Great King Enma and the 5 Stories”), was also revealed last week:

Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan! will premier on December 20th in Japan, pretty much one year after the first movie.
