World Video Game Hall of Fame: 2016 inductees (Zelda, Sonic, more)

ZeldaBack in March, the strong museum revealed the list of the 15 finalists for the 2016 World Video Game Hall of Fame, which would be inducted today, following a ceremony held at the museum itself.

The ceremony took place earlier today, and we now know which games among the 2016 finalists made it. Good news for fans of the Zelda series, the original The Legend of Zelda game is one of the inductees this year… a nice way to celebrate its 30th Anniversary!

Here’s the 15 finalists announced back in March, with those inducted in 2016 bolded:

  • Elite
  • Final Fantasy
  • Grand Theft Auto III
  • John Madden Football
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Minecraft
  • Nürburgring
  • The Oregon Trail
  • Pokemon Red and Green
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization
  • The Sims
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Space Invaders
  • Street Fighter II
  • Tomb Raider

For those who didn’t make it this year, there will always be next year. After all, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Invaders were part of the finalists in 2015, but were not inducted.
