Terraria: Wii U version coming out next month in Europe/North America, trailer

Update

According to a listing on the Nintendo eShop, the Wii U version of Terraria will be released next week in Europe (on June 9th), a few weeks before the retail release. It will apparently cost €19.99, and require 384.5MB of free space on the Wii U or external HDD.

It’s quite likely that North America will also get the digital version of Terraria on the same day, but it remains to be confirmed. No doubt we will get a proper announcement within the next few days!

Thanks Yannick for the heads up!

***TerrariaIn April, 505 Games gave an update regarding the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U version of Terraria, which were first announced last year. For the Nintendo 3DS version, a major update is coming soon, and was in fact submitted to Nintendo for certification last week. But until yesteray, we still had no news regarding the Wii U version, which took longer than expected.

505 Games announced that the Wii U version would be released next month in the West:

  • Europe: June 24th
  • North America: June 28th

While 505 Games doesn’t specify it, the release date (which is on Friday in Europe, and Tuesday in North America) implies this release will be both at retail and on the Nintendo eShop. The Wii U version of Terraria is also coming to Japan, but we don’t have a date yet. Spike-Chunsoft is the one publishing Terraria in Japan, so it’s from them that any announcement will come.

505 Games talks a bit about the features of the Wii U version of Terraria, which will feature “intuitive touchscreen controls”, but also 4 player local multiplayer (split-screen), and 8 player online multiplayer. The game will also have achievements, that players will be able to post on Miiverse (like with various other games on Wii U).

Here’s some of the other features of Terraria on Wii U:

  • 14 different environments such as eerie dungeons, slippery ice wastes, wild jungles and more
  • Hundreds of craftable weapons, armor and items
  • More than 150 enemies ranging from zombies to armies of goblins
  • Epic boss battles that test players’ combat skills
  • Vast worlds of exploration that introduce new potions, magic, gear and more

Finally, here’s a trailer:

Terraria (Wii U) comes out on June 24th in Europe, June 28th in North America, and later this year in Japan. Our Upcoming Releases page has been updated with this new date.
