Super Famicom Mini announced for Japan, out on October 5th, (slightly) different set of games

A few hours ago, Nintendo announced the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: SNES Classic Edition / Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, releasing on September 29th in Europe and North America. Naturally, there was no way Japan wasn’t getting a Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom (or Super Famicom Mini, for short), but the announcement was obviously coming later (not at 3AM!).

And a few minutes ago, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom did exist, and that it would be released on October 5th in Japan. Just like in Europe and North America, there’s two controllers included in the box, though unlike the Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer, they’re not directly attached to the console. In fact, they use the same port as the Wii Remote (just like the NES Mini / NES Classic).

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom costs 7 980 Yen, and also include 21 games, but the selection is slightly different:

  • Super Mario World
  • F-Zero
  • Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyuushutsu Emaki (only in Japan)
  • Super Ghoul’s n Ghosts
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Super Formation Soccer (only in Japan)
  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Starfox
  • Secret of Mana
  • Mega Man X
  • Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (only in Japan)
  • Super Metroid
  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Panel de Pon (only in Japan)
  • Super Mario RPG
  • Super Street Fighter II
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Starfox 2

Just like in Europe, only the HDMI cable and the USB cable for power will be included: the AC Adapter will be sold separately (sold 1 000 Yen). Naturally, you can simply use the AC Adapter of the Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer instead if you prefer to avoid paying for one again (the same applies to the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, obviously).

Finally, here’s some pictures of the Super Famicom Mini, its packaging, and the games included:

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: SNES Classic Edition / Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System will be released on September 29th in Europe and North America.
The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom will be released on October 5th in Japan. The Upcoming Releases page has been updated!
