SteamWorld Heist: Image & Form showcase some of the Gear and enemies

Last week, Image & Form published another blog post on their official website, in order to showcase some of the Gear and Weapons in SteamWorld Heist. As you can imagine, equipment is one crucial element in the game: it can determine the outcome of battles (especially on the long term), and make the difference between a Gloring Victory or a crushing defeat.

During your travels, you will be able to purchase a wide range of gear: accessories, ammunition, weapons, etc. It’s up to you to spend your money responsibly, according to the situation and/or your strategy. For example, the Speed Boots are great to make up for the short distance your units can cover, while Aiming Googles is just perfect if you have trouble aiming.

As for weapons, picking up the right one isn’t necessarily easy. One thing to keep in mind: it’s generally better to chose the right weapons that suit your play style. Of course, you’re encouraged to try as many combinations as possible, and not always stick with the same weapons all the time. After all, each of them have their own perks and trade-offs, so a bit of experimentation every now and then is definitely a good thing.

For example, the Scoped Magnum isn’t the most powerful weapon, but its laser makes up for it with improved aiming. Meanwhile, The Advanced Revolved’s firepower is quite impressive, but its acuracy, on the other hand, really isn’t…

What’s more, each crew member has its own unique special abilities, and there’s also various classes for them. Therefore, picking up the right Gear and Weapons really is but one aspect of your strategies for battles.

Here’s some examples of Gear and weapons:

And today, Image & Form published another blog post, showcasing one of the first groups of enemies you’ll encouter: the Scrappers (already seen in the gameplay trailer). They’re pretty nasty, vicious and menacing… but not really the brightest of robots. Their strategy generally consists in relying of numbers. Nobody really knows why they’re behaving like they do, or why they’ve been expanding so quickly.

The Scrappers are hijacking an increasing number of spaceships and space stations, plundering and killing like there’s no tomorrow. It seems they have even been stealing entire ships, and collecting the body parts of their victims… talk about uncanny!

Here’s some of the types of Scrappers:

– Rippers: alone, they don’t pose much of a threat. But when they attack in numbers, it’s a different story.
– Choppers: more intelligent than Rippers, they can handle more powerful weapons.
– Crushers: they take a lot of hits to destroy, and they’re also quite powerful.

One thing to keep in mind about the Scrappers: their looks are randomly generated. But this isn’t just for fun, as this is an important aspect of the story.

SteamWorld Heist (Wii U / 3DS) comes out later this year in Europe and North America.
