SteamWorld Heist headed to the Nintendo Switch later this month

Are you done with SteamWorld Dig 2, and would love some more SteamWorld goodness on Nintendo Switch? Well then, here’s some good news for you: SteamWorld Heist is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Even better news: that release is closer than you’d think… it’s in two weeks exactly, on December 28th!

For those of you who never heard of SteamWorld Heist before, it’s a game that takes place in the same universe as SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Dig 2… bun in space! It offers a radically different gameplay experience, because it’s actually a turn-based strategy game, and not an action/platformer / Metroidvania.

This version will cost $19.99 / €19.99 / £14.99, and will include all the DLC released for the original version (additiona playable character, new missions, new gear, and most important of all, new hats). It will also offer (optional) touch controls.

Here’s a trailer for the Nintendo Switch version of the game:

Here’s what the game is all about:

Play as the admirable tactician Captain Piper and her ragtag team of fellow steambots as they explore outer space in pursuit of the galaxy’s dwindling water reserves. Your adventures will take you on board many enemy ships ready to defend their loot, so you’ll need to think tactically in order to survive tense turn-based side-scrolling shootouts. As your loot starts to pile, be prepared to defend your own ship from invading factions as well!

In this game, you get to control a team of scavenging steambots around procedurally generated maps. You can take cover behind barrels, and shoot at other robots with precision. In order to get the upper hand, you need to be able to pull off trick shots, and hit enemies by first making the bullets ricochet off the environment. Naturally, you also need to equip your steambots with the best weapons and gear!

Here’s the key features:

  • Fight for resources in this turn-based side-scrolling tactical action game
  • Strategise as you shoot your way through procedurally generated spaceships
  • Equip your steambots with weapons, gear, and even stylish hats!

Now that SteamWorld Heist has been announced for the Nintendo Switch, it’s highly likely SteamWorld Dig is next. Maybe a SteamWorld Collection at retail will follow once all three games are available on the platform!

SteamWorld Heist (Switch – eShop) comes out on December 28th in Europe and North America, and Early 2018 in Japan. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!
